C.D. Hylton Student Wins Statewide Teen Driver Safety Award

Turpen, who lives in Prince William County, was honored for her strong leadership and commitment to teen driver safety. She serves on YOVASO’s Youth Advisory Council, a team of 20 students from across the state who help lead peer-to-peer safety efforts and influence positive change for young drivers.

The annual banquet recognizes schools and students making strides in traffic safety. Turpen was one of 21 honorees across Virginia, and her work represents a significant contribution from the Woodbridge area.

Back-to-School Community Event Returns Aug. 2 to Gar-Field High School

The free event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and aims to provide students with the tools they need to start the year strong—offering school supplies, vaccinations, community resources, and entertainment for the entire family.

“This year’s Back-To-School event will be here before you know it, so we encourage families to put it on their calendar,” said Dr. Vanessa M. Gattis, president and CEO of PWCCF. “Our goal is to put students in the best position to succeed, and with I-66 EMP as a Silver Sponsor, this event is ready to do exactly that.”

QUANTICO, Va. – Get ready for a wave of symphonic sound when the U.S. Navy Concert Band performs on Thursday, July 24, at the National Museum of the Marine Corps.

The Navy’s premier wind ensemble, the band is known for its polished performances at presidential inaugurations, state ceremonies, and concerts across the country. Their July 24 concert will feature a mix of patriotic tunes, classical works, and toe-tapping medleys.

Presented at the Wind River Theater, the ARTfactory’s production of Cabaret has sold out nearly every performance. The final show with tickets remaining is set for Saturday, July 26 at 2 p.m., with a pre-show beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Audience members are invited to take a seat at a candlelit table just feet from the stage inside a space reimagined as the famed Kit Kat Club. Premier table seating includes the option to purchase wine from Nokesville Winery and charcuterie boxes from Pampas Fox Catering.

FOX 5’s Zip Trip Returns to Stafford August 15 with Live Broadcast from Embrey Mill

STAFFORD, Va. – FOX 5 DC is heading back to Stafford County for another installment of its popular Zip Trip morning show series. The live broadcast will take place on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 7 to 11 a.m. at Embrey Mill Town Center.

The county’s last appearance on the Zip Trip tour was in 2017, when the broadcast aired live from the Jeff Rouse Swim and Sports Center. This year, FOX 5 called Stafford directly, showing continued interest in highlighting the county as a featured destination.

Rain Moves Bastille Day Party Indoors, But Spirits Soar

Fredericksburg’s sister city is Fréjus, France, and the Bastille Day celebration on July 14 was all about this international bond.

“I’ve been there plenty of times,” Mathalie Bullock, a French resident of Fredericksburg, who loves celebrating the sister city recognition. Part of the celebration is a giant omelet that wasn’t on the menu this year, but Bullock remembers seeing it in the past. “Everyone breaks eggs. They did it once here, it was really cool,” she said.
