Some streets are flooded after the excessive rainfall across our area today, prompting a flood warning from the National Weather Service until 2:30 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2023.

Locations experiencing flooding include Manassas, Manassas Park, Dale City, and portions of western Prince William County.


Prince William County Public Schools called a Code Orange, meaning students and teachers are expected to work from home tomorrow, Thursday, December 15.

According to the school division, school buildings and offices will be closed. Students are expected to learn asynchronously (asynchronous learning allows for independent learning or within a specific timeframe). Staff is expected to work remotely.


Prince William County residents asked the U.S. Department of Interior to step in to block the Board of County Supervisors from approving its 2040 comprehensive land-use plan.

The vote is tomorrow, Tuesday, December 13, at 7:30 p.m.


Gainesville District Supervisor Peter Candland announced an abrupt end to his third term on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors.

Candland will resign on Friday, December 16, 2022 (not 2023), after spending nearly 10 years and three terms in office representing western Prince William County. The senior member of the Board of County Supervisors, his decision comes after supervisors approved the controversial Prince William Digital Gateway development, which cleared the way for data centers to be built on more than 800 acres next to Manassas National Battlefield Park.


Candland’s final meeting will be Tuesday, December 13, when supervisors are set to vote on the 2040 Comprehensive [land-use] Plan, a document that guides the development of roads, housing, utilities, and just about everything else in the growing 348-square mile jurisdiction.

On June 23 at 3:03 a.m., officers responded to the Somerset Pointe Apartments located in the 14700 block of Soapstone Drive in Gainesville to investigate an initial report of an unconscious 20-month-old child.

Police and fire and rescue personnel responded to the apartment after the mother of the child, identified as the accused, reported the two were co-sleeping when she woke to find him unconscious.


Updated 10:55 a.m. — A woman is hospitalized after she was reduced from a burning home in Dumfries.

Fire and rescue crews responded to a 2-alarm townhouse blaze in the Williamstown neighborhood at about 7:30 a.m. The woman was pulled from the home’s second floor and flown to an area hospital.


Prince William County Supervisors voted to amend its comprehensive plan to allow up to 27 million square feet of data centers to be built next to Manassas National Battlefield Park.

It’s the largest, most transformative land-use case in county history.
