The Manassas City Council unanimously approved a franchise agreement with Avports, LLC, to bring commercial passenger jet service to the city’s regional airport. 

“We have to be ready for growth, for the businesses that want to locate here, and for the businesses that are already here,” said Mayor Michelle Davis Younger.


VDOT/Transubran: “The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Transurban North America will partially open a 10-mile extension of the 95 Express Lanes in August to reduce congestion on the Interstate 95 corridor through Stafford County and Fredericksburg, connecting the region to Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.”

“The extension will continue the 95 Express Lanes from the current terminus just south of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) to near Route 17 (Warrenton Road) in Stafford County. In August, northbound I-95 through travelers approaching from the Rappahannock River area will be able to enter Express Lanes using a left ramp entrance near the Route 17 interchange.”


By a 5-3 vote, the Winston-Salem [N.C.] City Council on Friday chose William Patrick “Pat” Pate of Manassas, Va., as the next city manager of the city.

“Update: Fredericksburg trains 301, 303 and 305 and 315 will NOT operate.”

Washington, D.C. Fire and EMS: “Amtrak derailment in tunnel at entrance to Union Station. Initial report minor in nature & no reported injuries. Fire units are working to reach the train, which is occupied.”


Update — “The Virginia State Police is seeking the public’s help with the fatal crash that occurred Wednesday (July 5), in Stafford County. Trooper A. Roberts is investigating a crash that occurred at 4:42 a.m. on Interstate 95 northbound at the 136-mile marker when a collision occurred between a blue in color 2022 Freightliner tractor-trailer, a black in color 2014 Nissan Altima, and a red in color 2010 Subaru Forrester.”

Update 11:30 a.m. — “Interstate 95 northbound has reopened at exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) in Stafford County. The detour has been lifted. Two northbound lanes are open. A single lane, the right lane, will remain closed as part of the ongoing response to the earlier crash.”


It’s been a week since 34-year-old Freddy Orozco Lopez was shot dead in Manassas Park.

As far as we know, the suspect, Juan Zacarias, 39, remains at large. We also still don’t know the circumstances of the case. A police press release posted to the police department’s Facebook page six days ago states detectives don’t plan to release that information due to an ongoing investigation.


Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department: “On Wednesday, June 28th, the Stafford County Fire Marshal’s Office received an anonymous tip regarding the presence of possible illegal fireworks in the White Oak area of the county. On Thursday, June 29th, a Stafford County Deputy Fire Marshal went to the reported address in the 200 block of McCarty Road, and upon exiting his vehicle observed a large amount of what appeared to be illegal fireworks in plain view.

“The business did have an existing fire prevention code permit, which meant the business could be subject to inspection at any time. A subsequent inspection led to the seizure of a multitude of illegal fireworks with an estimated retail value of more than $600,000. The Stafford County Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate, and charges are pending against the two individuals involved.”


Stafford County Fire and Rescue: “Just after 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28th, Stafford County Fire and Rescue (SCFR) units were dispatched for a reported structure fire in the 00 block of Hunting Creek Lane [Woodstream neighborhood in North Stafford] in the northern portion of Stafford County. First arriving units marked on the scene less than 5 minutes later and found a vehicle on fire in front of a three-story, end-of-the-row townhouse that had extended to the front of the home. The fire was brought under control in approximately 10 minutes, with minor damage to the adjacent townhome.”

“The townhome was occupied by three adults at the time. All were able to evacuate without assistance, and the American Red Cross has been contacted for assistance. No firefighter injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation by the Stafford County Fire Marshal’s Office. SCFR units were assisted on the scene by Quantico Fire and Emergency Services.”


Update 2:30 p.m. June 27, 2023 — A 36-year-old man from Woodbridge died in this crash. Here’s the full update.

Update 11:11 a.m. — VDOT Fredericksburg: “The Interstate 95 southbound local lanes have reopened near exit 133 (Falmouth/Warrenton) in Stafford. The earlier crash scene is clear. Southbound drivers can again enter the I-95 southbound local lanes at the divide between local/through lanes to access the Route 3 interchange in Fredericksburg.”
