Fredericksburg Breaks Ground on $180 Million Wastewater Plant Expansion to Serve Future Growth — and Data Centers

City leaders break ground on Fredericksburg’s $180 million wastewater treatment plant upgrade and expansion on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025. The four-year project behind Dixon Park will modernize the city’s aging facility, expand capacity, and reduce nutrient pollution flowing into the Rappahannock River and Chesapeake Bay.

Fredericksburg officials gathered Tuesday afternoon to break ground on the largest public works project in the city’s history — a $180 million upgrade and expansion of the wastewater treatment plant behind Dixon Park.

City leaders say the modernization will prepare Fredericksburg for decades of residential and industrial growth, reduce nutrient pollution in the Rappahannock River, and provide the infrastructure needed to serve new industries — including data centers planned within the city’s Technology Overlay District.

Crane operator, firefighter injured in industrial fire on Route 1

FFXnow – At least six people have been hospitalized, and local residents are being advised to shelter in place, as firefighters seek to control a two-alarm fire at a metal scrap yard along Richmond Highway in Lorton.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue units were dispatched just after 1 p.m. to the Davis Industries property at 9920 Richmond Highway for an outside fire, according to scanner traffic.

Former delegate Hala Ayala tapped to lead national NOW PAC

Hala Ayala, a former Virginia delegate from Prince William County, has been named the new National Political Action Committee (PAC) Director for the National Organization for Women (NOW), the group announced Monday.

Ayala, who represented House District 51 from 2018 to 2022, said the new role will focus on building political power, boosting fundraising, and electing more women nationwide. “We’re not here to play small,” Ayala said in a statement. “We’re here to build power, raise the resources, and elect leaders who reflect the people.”

Emails Show PWCS Braced for Turning Point USA Club Debate Before Board Clash

A screenshot shows a Google Form titled “Petition for the Removal of TPUSA from Patriot High School,” which circulated among students in late September 2025. The petition asked participants whether they supported removing the proposed Turning Point USA chapter from the school.

Internal correspondence within Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) shows that senior division officials were aware of and actively discussed the potential for controversy surrounding the establishment of a Turning Point USA (TPUSA) student club before the October 1, 2025, School Board meeting.
