[Updated Noon] Nearly a foot of snow fell across the region so far today.

The storm moved in early this morning. The snow machine ramped up after 8 a.m. making roads impassable, causing power outages, and causing headaches for emergency responders who were stranded in the snow and had to call for help from wrecker services.


News

We’ve learned the names of the first two babies born in 2022 in Stafford County and Fredericksburg.

Baby girl Nazli was born at 1:35 a.m. Saturday, January 1to Maria and Jaime of Fredericksburg, weighing 7 pounds 13 ounces. Nazli–meaning delicate, precious, and beautiful–is the couple’s second child, the hospital writes in a press release.

News

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will bring between three and seven inches of snowfall. Though temperatures today in our area climbed into the low 60s, a cold front will move through the region overnight, forcing temperatures to drop, and will set the stage for accumulating snow, forecasters said.

The weather service states that snowfall amounts will vary between five and eight inches across the region, and winds will gust up to 35 mph.


Prince William

Shots rang out Saturday night at Stonebridge Potomac Town Center in Woodbridge.

Police went to the Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center shopping center, anchored by Wegmans grocery store, just after 11 p.m. Saturday, January 1, after a man who had been shot walked into a hospital emergency room seeking treatment.


Neighborhood Notes

The Prince William County Landfill will cut its operating hours next month.

Due to a shortage of truck drivers, the landfill will be closed Sundays beginning January 9 until further notice. The change will affect the dump at 14811 Dumfries Road and a composting facility at 13000 Balls Ford Road near Gainesville.
