Occoquan will hold its first RiverFest & Craft Show this weekend, June 4 and 5, 2022, creating a new craft show event that springboards from a 50-year tradition, featuring a spotlight on the Occoquan River and water-related activities.

The new RiverFest & Craft Show will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, and will take place rain or shine. There is no admission fee, however, those using the parking shuttle will pay a $5 round trip fee.

The city’s capital improvement budget includes several projects, including a new $3.9 million addition to the city’s museum, a $4.4 million expansion of Dean Park, adding new fields and amenities, more than $7 million for Anaburg Manor, and the recently acquired mansion turned park near the city’s downtown.

The city is also working to replace Dean Elementary School at an estimated $62 million cost. Officials have been working since 2014 on finding a site on which to build the new school.

The Prince William County Planning Commission will review the request to rezone 16 acres from B-1, General Business, to PMR, Planned Mixed Residential, with associated development waivers and modifications, including a signage modification, to allow up to 355 apartments.

The property sits next to a Sheetz gas station at Caton Hill Road and Killarney Drive. The area is already in the headlines after the Washington Commanders expressed interest in building a new stadium and practice facility on top of two existing commuter lots just off Telegraph Road.

The Stafford Soap Box Derby will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022, for the first time in Stafford County.

Hosted by the Regional Soap Box Derby Organization, racers will be challenged as they race on Reservoir Road in front of the Rocky Run Elementary School, located at 95 Reservoir Road, Fredericksburg, Va., 22406. On Wednesday, June 1 at 10:38 a.m., officers went to the 12500 block of Colebrook Court in Lake Ridge after a 3-year-old child was found playing on a street.

A resident reported to police that when they saw a 3-year-old boy, and they brought the boy to the sidewalk where. The child pointed at a nearby house. The Good Samaritan went to the door and there was no answer at the home. He then called the police.

Area religious leaders and elected officials praised a move to bring a new crisis receiving center to Prince William County.

When the center eventually opens sometime next year, police will bring patients with a temporary mental illness to the center for treatment. The center will provide 23-hour monitoring for those in the middle of a mental health crisis.
