Greetings, Prince William – Catholic Charities is seeking volunteers aged 18+ to help tutor students on an ongoing basis.  Their VA Refugee Student Achievement Project (VRSAP) program supports children for up to five years after arrival and assists refugee students in target areas so that they will be successful in school.  Tutors assist children with tutoring, school supplies, computers, referrals for counseling, academic services, testing, and other needs. Crews extended multiple lines and brought the fire under control in 20 minutes. Due to the location of the fire, fire crews had to pull water from nearby Lake Arrowhead to douse the blaze.

The two occupants of the home were not home at the time and were not injured. There were no reported firefighter injuries. There were no smoke alarms heard at the time of the fire.

Strong-Arm Robbery – On July 8 at 1:53PM, officers responded to the ABC Store located at 2225 Old Bridge Rd. in Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a fight. The investigation revealed two male patrons entered the store together and began selecting items. One of the men purchased a few items and exited the store while the other man continued putting items into a basket. The man with the basket then attempted to exit the store with the unpaid merchandise.

When the manager confronted the man, a struggle over the basket ensued. During the altercation, the second man re-entered the store and intervened causing several bottles of alcohol to break before both suspects fled on foot. No injuries were reported. While investigating the incident, officers were informed of shoplifting that just occurred at another ABC Store located at 4255 Cheshire Station Plz.

The deputy had been called to investigate a mobile arrow board that had been struck by a car at 3:50 a.m. Friday, July 8. The striking driver fled the scene after colliding with the piece of equipment commonly used to warn them to move over to the next lane due to road work.

After inspecting the equipment parked outside an Arby’s restaurant, the driver of a black SUV slammed into the device, nearly missing the deputy who had walked back to his car 15 seconds earlier.

The Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA) and Amtrak today celebrated the start of a new daily roundtrip between Washington, D.C., and Roanoke.

There are now two round-trip trains traveling between the two cities. The new roundtrip departs Washington at 8:05 a.m., arriving in Roanoke at 1 p.m. The return trip departs Roanoke at 4:30 p.m. and arrives in Washington at 9:28 p.m.
