VDOT: “Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews will patrol Interstate 95 and state-maintained roads across the Fredericksburg area, Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula Tuesday morning ahead of the commuter rush hour to treat for icy, slick road conditions that may develop from wet pavement refreezing overnight.”

“Crews will focus especially on elevated surfaces more likely to experience icing, such as ramps, bridges, and overpasses, which have lower surface temperatures.”


Stafford County Sheriff’s Office: “A 38-year-old Spotsylvania woman caused an auto accident late last night due to reckless driving and alcohol.”

“On December 7th at approximately 5:47 p.m. Deputy C.M. Sterne responded to the intersection of Banks Ford Parkway and Celebrate Virginia Parkway for an auto accident. It was discovered the first driver had the right of way and proceeded through the intersection. The second driver also assumed she had the right of way and proceeded through the intersection. Any physics professor will tell you two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time.”


The Center Square: “Federal funding for a critical rail project supporting a new bridge crossing the Potomac River connecting the District of Columbia and Virginia has been secured.”

“The announcement was made Thursday in Arlington. A group of bipartisan lawmakers from Virginia celebrated the $729 million funding to support the completion of the new Long Bridge, which is anticipated to ease rail traffic bottlenecks, expand freight capacity and improve commuter rail capability.”


Transurban North America, operator of the 95, 395, and 495 Express Lanes, announced today the final access points of the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension will open at 10 p.m. on December 7, 2023, ready for northbound rush hour the morning of December 8, 2023.

I-95 Northbound and Southbound: Exit 143 (Aquia/Garrisonville) to Exit 148 (Quantico): Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Alternating northbound and southbound lane closures at mile marker 145 for maintenance at Aquia Creek bridges.

I-95 Northbound: Exit 133 (Falmouth/Warrenton) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway): Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single lane closure for work zone barrier removal between mile markers 134-136. Part of the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.


Delegate Candi Mondon King (D-23, Stafford, Woodbridge) says she will again push legislation that requires a study of the cost of using the region’s E-ZPass Express Lanes.

Virginia State Police: “The Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal crash that occurred at approximately 9:06 a.m. this morning, Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023, on Interstate 95 in Prince William County.”

“The preliminary investigation indicates that a black Toyota Tundra, driven by Lloyd R. Felder, 69, of Triangle, Va., pulled off onto the right, northbound shoulder of I-95 at the 158 mile marker [Prince William Parkway]. Felder then exited his vehicle and stepped into the northbound travel lane where he was struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer.”


Fairfax County police: “At 12:24 a.m. on Dec. 5th, officers responded to the intersection of Lee Highway and Clifton Road in Centreville. Officers found a 2013 BMW M3 and a 2012 Hyundai Sonata with severe damage. The driver of the Hyundai Sonata, Sohail Iqbal, 30, of Manassas, was declared deceased by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue at the scene.”

“The driver of the BMW was taken to the hospital for injuries considered life-threatening.”


Stafford County Sheriff’s Office: “Hope Road just wasn’t wide enough for this tractor trailer to turn around at Bayview Overlook. Deputies are on scene and a tow truck just arrived. We hope to have the road reopened soon.”

Hope Road is a winding, two-lane street that links Route 1 in Stafford County with rural areas along the Aquia Creek.


Germanna Community College: “On Monday, Dec. 4, 2023, Transurban North America, operator of the 95, 395, and 495 Express Lanes, celebrated the imminent completion of the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension with a $250,000 grant to the Virginia Infrastructure Academy at Germanna Community College.”

“Joined by the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education, the Virginia Department of Transportation, elected officials, and community members, Transurban presented the contribution that will go toward the Infrastructure Academy’s mission to train military veterans for a career in infrastructure.”
