Residents of the Prince William area have convenient, car-free options for celebrating Independence Day and America’s 250th anniversary this year. OmniRide is launching a free round-trip bus service to the Pentagon Metrorail Station on Saturday, July 4, complementing Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Fireworks Trains that Potomac Local first reported on May 22.
The special OmniRide service aims to help riders avoid heavy traffic and parking challenges associated with one of the region’s busiest travel days. Buses will run from two key locations in Prince William County: Stonebridge Garage in Woodbridge and the University Lot in Gainesville.
“Virginians are paying less at the pump this week as gasoline prices have fallen for three straight weeks, with the statewide average for regular unleaded gasoline dropping to $3.77 per gallon,” The Center Square reported. “Virginia’s average price was down from $3.91 a week ago and $4.32 a month ago.”
GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan noted prices fell in 47 states last week and could keep trending lower with steady market conditions.
The Dumfries Town Council unanimously approved a new policy governing the use of automated license plate reader (LPR) technology by the Dumfries Police Department during its June 16, 2026, meeting.
The policy establishes guidelines for the operation, access, retention, sharing, and auditing of data from eight Flock Safety LPR cameras. Flock Safety is an Atlanta-based company whose LPR systems are among the most widely used in Virginia.
“Milling and paving near exit 143 (Aquia/Garrisonville) between mile markers 142-145 in Stafford County,” the Virginia Department of Transportation reported. “Single lane closure begins at 9 p.m. Double lane closure starts at 10 p.m.”
Multiple overnight ramp closures are also scheduled for the Exit 143 area on I-95 southbound through next week, with drivers urged to use alternate routes such as Exit 148 (Quantico) to Route 1. Work runs nightly from 9 or 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting.

City Council discussed shifting parking management on the 1000 block of Sophia Street during a June 2026 work session, weighing revenue potential against impacts on downtown businesses, employees, and Riverfront Park visitors.
The city owns approximately 37 spaces on the block near Riverfront Park, intertwined with adjacent parcels owned by Stover General in a “piano keys” pattern of alternating ownership. A legacy free parking agreement dating to roughly 2007-2009 has allowed unrestricted use, but Stover General is moving toward a paid model similar to the William Street parking garage operated by Bigos.
“Southbound Route 1 in the City of Fredericksburg is reduced to a single lane between Wellford Street and Fall Hill Avenue today (Thursday, June 11) between 11am-2pm,” the Virginia Department of Transportation reported. “Concrete work will be underway for new curb and gutter.”
“Construction finishing in June 2026 on intersection projects in this area,” VDOT announced.
Stafford County drivers will need to find new routes starting today as Rock Hill Church Road closes for a major bridge replacement. The Virginia Department of Transportation is replacing the temporary single-lane bridge over Aquia Creek with a larger two-lane structure.
The existing temporary bridge was installed in the fall of 2020 after inspections revealed deterioration in the original 50-year-old structure. The $6.4 million project will create a new bridge with two 11-foot travel lanes, 6-foot paved shoulders on both sides, and higher rails. The new structure will be able to carry vehicles of all legal loads.
