FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — A Spotsylvania man died after the car he was driving rear-ended a dump truck at a Fredericksburg intersection on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025, around 8:09 p.m., police said.

Fredericksburg police identified the driver as Christopher Hlusko, 39, of Spotsylvania. He was driving a 2011 Mitsubishi Galant when it struck the back of a dump truck that had stopped for a red light and begun moving when the signal turned green, according to police.


A citizens advisory panel heard Wednesday that the Fredericksburg region has logged more than 400 crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists since 2016, underscoring the need for safer, more connected roadways.

The folks at the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office just told Potomac Local News that the crash happened around 5:40 p.m. on September 14, in the 6800 block of Courthouse Road. Deputies say a 2022 Tesla X crossed the double yellow line and slammed into a 2024 Hyundai Tucson.

The driver of the Hyundai, 76-year-old Donna Pinnell of Goochland, died at the scene. Her family has been notified.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The folks at VDOT just sent Potomac Local News their weekly heads-up on where road crews will be working across our area—and if you’re driving in Fredericksburg, Stafford, or Spotsylvania this week, here’s what you need to know.

On I-95, expect overnight lane closures southbound between Courthouse Road (Exit 140) and Centreport Parkway (Exit 136), and northbound between Ladysmith (Exit 110) and Spotsylvania (Exit 126). Crews will be doing milling, paving, and rumble strip installation.


PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. – A contracted highway patroller was killed last night on Interstate 95 while trying to help a stranded driver, according to Virginia State Police.

The folks at VDOT just shared with Potomac Local News that one of their Safety Service Patrol members was hit while assisting a disabled Audi near the 151-mile marker—just north of Dumfries—about 7:58 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6.

Holiday travelers heading out for Labor Day will see fewer work zones and a different schedule on the Interstate 95 Express Lanes.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) says most lane closures on interstates and major highways will be lifted from noon Friday, August 29, through noon Tuesday, September 2. The goal is to ease congestion for drivers making one last summer trip.


QUANTICO, Va. – The Virginia State Police just confirmed to Potomac Local News that a crash early Saturday morning on I-95 near Quantico claimed one life and is now under active investigation.

The crash happened around 1:18 a.m. on August 16 in the northbound lanes at mile marker 148.9 in Prince William County. While Stafford County deputies initially responded to the scene, the investigation has since been turned over to state police.
