In a 6-1 vote — Christopher Carroll, who represented the Brentsville District, left the Commission before the decision — the Planning Commission is passing along the project to the Board of Supervisors for their consideration.

The project spans 1,123 total acres with 1,058 units across three developments. One of the developments is adjacent to the Prince William Golf Club and the Longleaf Nature Preserve and is aptly named “Long Leaf at Kettle Run.”

Following the Planning Commission’s approval in early July, the Board followed up with its own approval of the two-fold application that requested nearly 19 acres of land be rezoned to accommodate limited future development.

The developer wants to amend the CPA and rezone the area to allow for the limited development in a truly mixed-use area of commercial and retail to the north; industrial trucking and storage to the south; railroad tracks and small residences to the east; and single-family homes to the west.

A Nokesville man is behind bars after allegedly attacking a 70-year-old coworker in an unprovoked assault that led to a malicious wounding charge. The incident headlines today’s Prince William police report, which also includes arrests for elder abuse, vandalism at a school, and a burglary in Woodbridge.

Police say Terry Warner Johnson, 59, of Alexandria, was arrested July 18 by Suffolk police for allegedly striking the elderly victim in the face multiple times on July 14 in the 14300 block of Glenkirk Road. The victim was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The application was two-fold. It was requested that the nearly 19 acres of land be rezoned from mixed-use village to light industrial and that an update be made to the Comprehensive Plan Amendment.

The update to the CPA would rezone the entire district from general business to light industrial. This area includes parts of Fitzwater Drive, Hooker Lane and the Norfolk Southern Railway, in addition to Nokesville Elementary School and a fire station.
