Republicans selected Bob Weir as their candidate for a Special Election in Prince William County’s Gainesville District.

Weir will face Democrat Kerensa Sumers in a February 21 match-up, where voters will decide who will serve the remainder of former Gainesville District Supervisor Peter Candland’s term that ends December 31, 2023.


On December 29, the suspect involved in two bank robberies near Manassas. was arrested. The first robbery occurred at Wells Fargo on October 4, and the second at Bank of America on November 19.

Fairfax County police arrested the suspect on December 28 concerning a bank robbery in the Reston area. During the investigation, the suspect was connected to the two robberies in Prince William County.


On Tuesday, December 28, at 12:41 a.m., officers were called to the Woodbridge Virginia Railway Express parking garage at 1040 Express Drive in Woodbridge. A 14-year-old girl and multiple male acquaintances were in the parking garage when they were approached by three masked men.

Two suspects brandished firearms before both groups began to fight.


The fire broke out in the 15000 block of Edgewood Drive in Montclair. Crews arrived with smoke showing from a single-family dwelling.

As fire crews worked to douse the blaze, one firefighter fell into the basement through a weak first floor. After he fell, the firefighter was able to get out of the burning home and suffered injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.


Police arrested a driver they said tried to flee a traffic stop and struck an officer’s arm with his car.

On Tuesday, December 20, at 9:20 p.m., a Prince William County police officer conducted a vehicle stop on a blue 2008 Mercedes SC400 in the area of Dale Boulevard and Forestdale Avenue in Dale City.


At 4:11 p.m. Friday, December 23, Prince William County fire and rescue crews were called to the 6000 block of Fox Den Court near for a house fire.

Crews arrived to find a working kitchen fire and the occupants safely out of the home.  The fire was quickly extinguished. The kitchen sustained moderate damage.
