On Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 2:38 PM, fire units were dispatched to the 3800 block of Port Hope Point in Dumfries following a report of a townhouse fire. Crews arrived to find smoke emanating from the two-story townhouse.
The fire was located in the kitchen and extinguished. No one was home at the time of the incident.
One of the occupants smelled smoke and alerted the other family members, who safely evacuated before fire crews arrived. No injuries were reported.
The structure sustained extensive damage, displacing two adults and four children. A Building Official determined the home was unsafe to occupy.
The Prince William Board of County Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved a rezoning to allow a developer to redevelop an area near a Woodbridge shopping center with the intent to construct more than 70 townhomes, a cafe and self-storage center.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released a statement on May 16 confirming that two Jordanian nationals were turned over to ICE custody. However, ICE did not respond to the request to confirm whether one or both men were on the Terrorism Watch list or address the contents of the box truck.
Captain James Covington, ICE spokesman, confirmed: “On May 3, 2024, Marine Corps Base Quantico’s Criminal Investigations Division arrested two Jordanian noncitizens for trespassing. Marine Corps Base authorities notified the ICE Eastern Regional Office (ERO) in Washington, D.C., of the apprehensions. Deportation officers from ERO Washington, D.C.’s Criminal Apprehension Program responded and arrested both individuals without incident. Both individuals will remain in ERO custody pending removal proceedings.”
Well, partner, if the weather holds up, there’s gonna be some northbound lane closures on I-95 this Friday night, May 17. If things don’t pan out, they’ll give it another go on Saturday night, May 18. This here’s happening ‘round mile marker 155, between the Dale City Truck-Only Safety Rest Area North and Cardinal Drive, all thanks to some work on the Powells Creek bridge, according to the folks at the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Here’s how it’s gonna shake out (one lane’ll always be open, so don’t fret too much):
The investigation revealed the victim, a 32-year-old woman, and her 5-year-child were traveling in the above area when they were involved in a road rage incident with the driver of another vehicle, later identified as the accused.
During the encounter, the accused brandished a firearm at the victim’s vehicle before the parties separated. No shots were fired. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Edwin Dale SIMS, was arrested.
