Dumfries Hires Eatman as CFO

Dumfries is Virginia's oldest continually chartered town.

Town Manager Tangela Innis is thrilled to announce the hiring of Mr. Curtis M. Eatman as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). With over a decade of public finance and leadership experience, Mr. Eatman has a proven track record of driving fiscal sustainability and operational improvements in local government.

Prior to joining Dumfries, Mr. Eatman served as the Finance Director for the Town of Hamden, CT, where he eradicated a $3M deficit and significantly improved the Town’s financial outlook. He also served as Finance Director for the Town of Bloomfield, CT, and held positions such as Principal Legislative Financial Analyst with the New York State Senate and Deputy Commissioner of Finance for the City of Schenectady, NY.

Join us Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. for our annual family-friendly Halloween Costume Parade and Contest. Meet at the Riverwalk Shops at 125 Mill Street, from which we will begin our parade down Mill Street to River Mill Park. At the park judging will take place for the categories of cutest, scariest, funniest, most original, and family/group. First place winners in each category will receive $25 gift certificates that can be used at select businesses in town. No advance registration is necessary, there is no fee to participate, and this event is open to everyone. (To accommodate the parade Mill Street will be closed briefly on a rolling basis between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m.). Prince William Breaks Ground on 23rd Fire Station

Potomac District Supervisor Andrea Bailey, the district in which the station will reside, said this is of the utmost importance to the community.

“With Station 27, we’re bringing faster emergency response times, state-of-the-art equipment and a dedicated team of firefighters and first responders,” Bailey said. “… It’s an investment in our future and a testament to the hard work of everyone involved in making this vision a reality.”

Out of the Blue: Restaurant Announces Sudden Closure

Out of the Blue Seafood restaurant in Gainesville has closed its doors after seven years of serving the community. The restaurant announced its closure on its Facebook page on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. Shortly after the announcement, the restaurant’s phone line was disconnected, and its Facebook page was removed.

Since opening in 2017, Out of the Blue has been a popular gathering place in Prince William County, hosting numerous community events, including several organized by the Prince William Chamber of Commerce. The restaurant quickly became known for its fresh seafood and welcoming atmosphere, drawing in regulars and new patrons alike.

Poilce Search for Rape Suspect Alvarado-Aguilar

Press Release from Prince William Police Department:

Rape Investigation – On October 17, 2024, detectives obtained charges in an ongoing investigation regarding a sexual assault that was reported to have occurred at a residence located in the Woodbridge (22191) area of Prince William County in 2023. The investigation revealed the adult female victim was sexually assaulted by an acquaintance, identified as the accused. While investigating the incident, detectives learned the accused had held the victim against her will in an altercation in 2022. The victim eventually reported the incidents prompting the police investigation. Following the investigation, detectives obtained arrest warrants for the accused, identified as Kelvin Johnson ALVARADO-AGUILAR. Attempts to locate the accused have been unsuccessful.

Prince William County’s Mobile Libraries Empower Residents with Educational and Health Resources

At the October 15, 2024, meeting of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, the county’s mobile libraries were celebrated for their vital role in delivering educational and health resources to underserved communities. These mobile units, known as the “13th branch” of the Prince William Public Library (PWPL), are helping bridge gaps in access to services and fostering community engagement.

Launched in March 2024, the state-of-the-art Mobile Library was officially introduced at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 21, 2024. County leadership, library staff, and community members gathered to mark the occasion, inviting attendees to tour the new addition to the library system. As part of PWPL’s broader initiative, the mobile library is a critical component of the newly formed Community Outreach Services division. It aims to bring library materials, programs, and technology to areas that need them most.

Dumfries Takes Legal Action Against Mayor Wood’s BBQ Business for Multiple Violations

In an unusual move, the Town of Dumfries sued its Mayor because it alleges his business, Dyvine BBQ on Acts Lane, has consistently failed to comply with the ordinances the Mayor had voted to enact. The manager plans to take further action soon.

In a February 2024 complaint to Prince William Civil Court, the town of Dumfries says Mayor Derrick Wood’s business, Dyvine BBQ, violated 12 separate ordinances regarding permitting, signage, customer seating, trash removal, and insurance requirements.
