Weir elected to Board of Supervisors, vows to push back on data centers

Weir beat his Democrat challenger Kerensa Sumers in a landslide 30-point victory today in a Special Election to determine who will complete the term of former Gainesville District Supervisor Peter Candland, who designed in Decembe022 after 10 years on the job.

Weir’s election is widely seen as a referendum on data centers and development, an answer to a Board of County Supervisors that continues to press forward on plaBattlefieldeNationalr more server farms in both residential areas in Bristow, and historical areas like the Manassas Battlefield National Park.

Special Election in Gainesville District is tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023

A Special Election will decide who will serve the remainder of Peter Candland’s term on the Board of County Supervisors ending on December 31, 2023. Democrat Kerensa Sumers and Republican Bob Weir are vying to replace Candland, who resigned in December 2022 after ten years serving on the board.

Quantico appointee replaces man, formerly of Stafford, who declined the job

The Quantico Town Council appointed Brandi Maly as a member of the six-member governing board that oversees the only independent town in the U.S. located within the borders of a military base.

We first told you earlier this month Seungwon Kang refused his appointment to the town council after winning the third-most votes out of 13 candidates who sought one of six seats on the council.

Gainesville District Supervisor candidates to appear at forum; Data centers key issue in race

Sumers (D) and Weir (R) are running in a February 21 Special Election for the Gainesville District seat on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors.

Two candidates vying for the Gainesville District Supervisors seat will participate in a voter forum on Thursday, February 9, 2023.

Kerensa G. Sumers (D) and Robert B. “Bob” Weir (R) will appear on stage at Battlefield High School, 15000 Graduation Drive near Haymarket, at 7 p.m. The event staff from the Prince William Committee of 100 will open the door to the school at 6:30 p.m. Here’s more information on this event flier.
