Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears used the podium in Prince William County to encourage Republicans to vote early.

Sears urged Republicans to participate in the growing practice of mail-in voting, a practice more Democrats than Republicans have adopted since introduced in Virginia in 2020. Sears said Rep. Jennifer Higgins (R-Virginia Beach) lost Virginia Beach City because more voters cast mail-in absentee ballots for the Democrat in the race. Kiggans won the overall vote but would have performed better had more Republicans voted, said Sears.

Youngkin donates 1st-quarter salary to jailhouse non-profit

The first couple donated a $43,750 check, the governor’s first-quarter salary, to Good News Jail and Prison Ministry, which works with inmates inside the jail, according to a press release.

The governor’s office did not tip off the press to his visit. Afterward, the first couple visited the nearby Prince William County Western District Police Station and spoke with a graduating crisis intervention team class.

Tom Gordy announced his candidacy for the open Brentsville District supervisor seat in Prince William County.

The Republican represents the Brentsville District on the Prince William County Planning Commission and Veterans Commission. He aims to replace Jeanine Lawson, who represented the district since 2014 and is now running to replace Ann Wheeler (D) as Prince William Board of Supervisors Chair At-large.

Lawson seeks to replace Wheeler as chair; Rising taxes, crime pushed county in ‘wrong direction’

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors dean announced her run to become its chair.

Jeanine Lawson, who served on the board the longest of all its eight members since 2014, seeks to unseat Ann Wheeler, who has served as board chair since 2020. Lawson has been an outspoken opponent of Wheeler and the majority of Democrats who have pushed to put more data centers and other industrial businesses in the western portion of the county.

DEI survey asking for sexual orientation was reopened to employees

The Prince William County Government took down an online survey asking employees about their gender identity, sexual orientation, and whether or not they feel valued at work after Supervisor Yesli Vega shared the survey with her constituents.
