Fredericksburg

“Scammers often try to form emotional or romantic relationships with their targets, frequently targeting older adults who may be more vulnerable and less likely to report losses,” Fredericksburg Police Department stated. “The perpetrator may instruct the victim over the phone to withdraw money from their bank account and deposit it into a cryptocurrency ATM…the scammer often stays on the line to guide the victim to ensure the transaction is completed.”

Police said cryptocurrency ATMs located in the City of Fredericksburg increase the risk of these scams locally. Officials urged residents—especially seniors—to avoid sharing gift card numbers or codes, resist pressure from urgent or threatening demands, and contact trusted family members or law enforcement if they suspect fraudulent activity. Anyone targeted is encouraged to call the Fredericksburg Police Department or Adult Protective Services.

“Real-time bus location information is essential, and our formal partnership with the Transit App elevates this to a new level,” OmniRide stated. “OmniRide’s introduction of the Royale feature at no cost to riders changes the conversation from simply asking, ‘Where’s the bus?’ to considering, ‘Where can I go with OmniRide?’”

The agency said it is now working directly with Transit to ensure riders receive the most accurate, real-time bus information and trip-planning tools. Beginning December 2, riders will be able to redeem free access to Transit Royale, which includes unlimited departure schedules, additional routing options, and customizable in-app themes.
