Three people were displaced after a house fire in the Marumsco Acres section of Woodbridge.
“[Monday, December 18, 2023, at 9:44 a.m.], units were summoned to [14000 blk Fisher Ave.] for residents observing smoke and smelling something burning behind a dryer in the basement. Crews arrived and extinguished a small fire in the wall. The home sustained minimal damage. No injuries were reported. Three (3) adults were displaced. The Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire was caused by an electrical failure,” reports the fire marshal.
The Virginia Department of Corrections announced the closure of four facilities, including one in Stafford County.
“Augusta Correctional Center, Sussex II State Prison, Haynesville Correctional Unit #17, and Stafford Community Corrections Alternative Program (CCAP) will be closed, effective July 1, 2024. These decisions were made to enhance employee, inmate, and probationer safety, to address longstanding staffing challenges, and in consideration of significant ongoing maintenance costs,” the State Department of Corrections announced in a press release.

“Prince William County Executive Chris Shorter and County Attorney Michelle Robl recently received raises from the board of supervisors that make them the highest paid officials in those roles among Northern Virginia’s largest counties,” Shannon Clark at Prince William Times reports.
Prince William County will charge trash haulers more to bring your garbage to the county landfill starting January 1, 2023.
When it passed its annual budget earlier this year, the Board of County Supervisors approved a $40 per ton fee for garbage collectors. The fee will help maintain and expand the landfill.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office reported the following incidents.
“Ford T. Humphrey Public Safety Building, 1225 Courthouse Road, 12/16, 11:42 p.m. Deputy C.R. Newman responded to a suspicious vehicle call. The caller advised they were being followed by another vehicle. Deputy Newman located the vehicle in front of the Sheriff’s Office and made contact with the driver. The driver had signs of being intoxicated and admitted to consuming tequila prior to driving. He was arrested for driving under the influence and was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober.”
