Fredericksburg considers parking fees, takes cues from neighbor

In a response to Stafford County’s decision to slap a $25 fee for non-county residents who want to park their car at a popular county park, Historic Port of Falmouth on the Rappahannock River, neighboring Fredericksburg is now looking to do the same.

The city will hold an informational meeting on Monday, June 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the Dorothy Hart Community Center, 408 Canal Street, where residents can learn about a plan to charge parking fees at Old Mill Park. The new fees could go into effect as early as July, the city posted to Facebook:

Governor Glenn Youngkin held a rally at The Harbour Grille in Woodbridge to tout the new state budget which he recently signed, Youngkin announced that the budget would give millions in funding to schools, police, and mental health treatment.

This weekend: Manassas Bee Festival returns with live music, animals, mead garden

The second Manassas Bee Festival will be held on Saturday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Liberia House and Grounds at 8601 Portner Avenue in Manassas.

Speakers at the event will give presentations about planting native plants, responsible gardening, pollinators, the honey bees, and more. City Councilwoman Theresa Coates Ellis and the city’s Beautification Committee are organizing the event.

Jonesing for a drink: Woman charged after Exxon employee roughed up

On Thursday, June 23 at 2:07 a.m, Prince William County police officers responded to the Exxon service station located at 7113 Sudley Road near Manassas to investigate shoplifting.

The investigation revealed a patron, later identified as the accused, entered the store, and attempted to purchase alcohol. When the employee informed the accused the sale could not be completed, a struggle ensued over the alcohol, police said.

Full stop: Temp change for I-95 drivers headed to Route 17 in Falmouth

A temporary traffic pattern on the Interstate 95 northbound off-ramp at the exit 133 (Route 17) interchange in Stafford County will take effect tomorrow, June 24, to improve safety during construction of the I-95 Northbound Rappahannock River Crossing Project.

I-95 northbound travelers seeking southbound Route 17 toward Falmouth will now come to a full stop at the end of the off-ramp, then turn right. Drivers will no longer have to yield and then merge into Route 17 southbound traffic.

Dumfries gun buy-back program headed to public hearing

Dumfries leaders are working to introduce a gun buyback program that will allow residents to sell firearms they no longer want to the town in exchange for cash.

According to state law, the town created an ordinance to state the purpose of the buyback program. Residents are invited to come and speak on the proposed gun buyback program during the town council’s public meeting on July 5, 2022.

Hurricane Agnes remembered 50 years later

Wednesday, June 22, marked the 50th anniversary of the devastation caused by Hurricane Agnes.

The storm caused massive damage across the region, including washing out a bridge that carried Route 1 over the Occoquan River in Woodbridge and the iron Pratt truss bridge that carried Route 123 over the Occoquan River. The Town of Occoquan is planning an extended commemoration of Agnes during our Discover Occoquan week in August. Among the week’s planned activities is the dedication of a memorial that incorporates part of the truss bridge destroyed by the floodwaters.
