Giant Food combating theft, shelving fewer high-value items

Fox News: “Giant Food, which operates 165 supermarkets in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia and Delaware, has taken measures to combat theft and keep stores safe, according to a report in the Washington Post. The steps include limiting store entrances, hiring security guards, restricting the number of items at self-checkout stands, putting fewer high-value items on shelves and securing razor blades in containers that make noise if opened.”

“Company President Ira Kress said he’s seen theft rise at least “tenfold in the last five years” and violence increase “exponentially.”

“In game one, which was a resumption from an April game that was suspended due to rain, the two clubs took the field in the bottom of the second inning with Delmarva ahead 2-1. Brad Lord held the score there, until the top of the fifth inning. Carter Young and Angel Tejada both singled, then Samuel Basallo got plunked to load the bases. Lord struck out a pair of batters to get two outs, but Erison Placencia singled into right field to plate Young and push Delmarva ahead 3-1.”

“But in the home half, Fredericksburg bounced back. Paul Witt drew a lead-off walk, before Cortland Lawson plated Witt with a triple. Daylen Lile then came through with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 3-3.”

Habitat for Humanity helps restore 3 homes in Manassas

Volunteers gathered in Manassas to help fix up three homes in the Bristoe Station neighborhood on Confederate Trail in Manassas.

Habitat for Humanity Prince William County: “Whiting-Turner Contracting of Herndon VA was on hand to kick-off of our neighborhood revitalization for the Bristoe Station Community! The goal of our revitalization initiative is to address city code violations for families in the community. With 51 homes being impacted, Whiting-Turner was able to sponsor our kickoff by addressing 3 homes that were in need of repairs.”

Libraries Summer Reading 2023 programs now underway

Prince William County Public Libary: “Prince William Public Libraries’ 2023 Summer Reading program is centered around kindness, friendship, and unity with the theme, “All Together Now.” From June 20 – August 20, come into any of our 12 libraries to register for Summer Reading. “This year’s Summer Reading program has something for all ages. Game cards are uniquely designed for Babies and Toddlers, Preschool – Grade 5, and Grades 6 – 12, with fun activities to complete that encourage participants to learn more about library services and programs and to read books to meet goals and win prizes. This year’s program also includes a challenge for adults by encouraging them to complete activities or read books all summer.”
