If you’ve got business at or near the Fairfax County Government Center, charges are coming to a popular exit ramp from Interstate 66.

Crews working to build E-ZPass Express Lanes are preparing to close the ramps at Monument Drive and Stringfellow Road. As early as Monday, October 24, the ramps to I-66 East from Monument Drive and Stringfellow Road will close.

Philip Sowers told Potomac Local News he and his wife commute in their Buick SUV to work at an office on Fairfax County Parkway. They decided to use the new E-ZPass lanes when the first segment of the tolled lanes opened late last month, from Haymarket to Route 29 in Fairfax.

The only catch: the Sowers’ SUV had a luggage rack on top, making the vehicle over seven feet tall. The automated toll booths mistakenly took it for a small commercial vehicle and charged Sowers three times the regular toll rate.

The northbound lanes will close for a reversal from about 10:30 p.m. Saturday to 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. The lanes will then run southbound from 12:30 to about 1:30 a.m.

From 1:30 to 3:30 a.m., the lanes will reverse again, fully reopening northbound at about 3:30 a.m.

Michael Van Meter is trading his political microphone for the real deal.

The Republican who lives in Springfield is mounting a run for the newly-created District 33 State Senate Seat. The district, created in December 2021 by the Virginia State Supreme Court as part of the redistricting process, has no incumbent.

Blues musician Bobby BlackHat and his band will replace Mark G. Meadows, a Stevie Wonder tribute band, who had been scheduled to perform during the show slated for Saturday, July 2. The fireworks show is rescheduled for Sunday, July 10. Meadows was unable to make the rain-date performance.

Tickets to the event start at $20 per car. Those who walk to the event, or take a taxi may attend free.
