Haymarket Day kicks off today with a record 321 vendors, a retro-themed parade, and tax-free dining for the weekend.

The town’s 4% meals tax is waived through Sunday, October 19, allowing visitors to enjoy prepared food from local restaurants tax-free. Town officials say the tradition helps support restaurants during their busiest weekend of the year.

New Bus Connects Prince William to Loudoun

Loudoun County Government – Loudoun County Transit will launch a commuter bus service pilot program connecting Frederick County, Maryland, and Prince William County to employment centers within Loudoun County, beginning Monday, October 20, 2025.

InsideNoVa – Falling enrollment in Prince William has school system officials taking a deep dive into population trends and how to mitigate the uneven distribution of students across the division’s 100 schools.

The school division, which serves roughly 90,000 students, is dealing with falling enrollment numbers due to a variety of issues, including declining birth rates and outmigration, officials said during a joint meeting between the School Board and Board of County Supervisors Oct. 8.

Marines and Families Celebrate Halloween at Quantico Trunk or Treat

U.S. Marines and their families gathered outside Lejeune Hall at Marine Corps Base Quantico on October 16, 2025, for the base’s annual Trunk or Treat celebration. Participants decorated their car trunks with festive Halloween themes and handed out candy to children, fostering community spirit and family fun across the installation.

The event, which drew Marines from multiple units, included appearances by service members such as 1st Sgt. Ashley Kowtko of Headquarters Company, Security Battalion, who joined in handing out treats. The Trunk or Treat offered a safe and spirited way for families aboard Quantico to celebrate the Halloween season together.

Manassas airport launches new website amid plans for commercial service expansion

Manassas Regional Airport has launched a redesigned website as part of its ongoing efforts to modernize and prepare for commercial airline service. Operated by the City of Manassas, the airport is Virginia’s busiest general aviation hub, with over 100,000 flights annually and more than 400 aircraft based on site.

The new website, developed by Trivera Interactive and accessible at flyhef.com, features improved mobile responsiveness, easier navigation, and quick access to flight operations data, tenant information, and visitor tools. Airport Director Juan Rivera said the redesign enhances accessibility and aligns with the airport’s broader vision to expand aviation services.

Federal shutdown fallout: SNAP delays, food needs rise, and NOVEC offers help

As the federal government shutdown continues into its third week, thousands of families in the Fredericksburg and Northern Virginia regions are facing growing uncertainty about essential services like food and utilities. Local agencies are stepping up to warn residents and offer assistance.

The Fredericksburg and Stafford County Departments of Social Services have issued urgent public notices about potential disruptions to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. While October payments have already been disbursed, both agencies say November benefits may be delayed—or not issued at all—without Congressional action to fund the USDA. In Stafford, more than 12,000 residents across 5,000 households rely on SNAP. Officials are urging families to conserve existing benefits and use tools like Virginia Fresh Match and FredFoodVA to access local food support.
