When Jennifer Carroll Foy was crisscrossing the state on a tour bus in 2019, she seemed like the perfect candidate for governor.

Recently elected to a second term in the House of Delegates, representing Woodbridge, and the northern portion of Stafford, the Democrat won a landslide victory over her Republican challenger. Young, female, African-American — it seemed like she had it all, especially in 2020, a year that saw many calls to elevate more minority, progressive candidates to higher office.

A 35-year-old man is behind bars in connection with car theft and the subsequent car fire that took place in December.

Aggravated Malicious Wounding | Grand Larceny Auto | Arson Investigation *ARREST – On June 8, the suspect wanted in connection to the vehicle theft that was reported to have occurred in the 14100 block of Minnieville Rd. in Woodbridge (22193) on December 11, was arrested. The suspect, Martinez Juan ROBERTSON, was located and taken into custody by members of the Fairfax County Police Department.

The newest middle school in Prince William County will serve to bridge the gap between in-person learners and those who excel at learning virtually at home.

Potomac Shores Middle School, at 17851 Woods View Drive near Dumfries, is the second new school to be built in the neighborhood that bears the same name. The three-story, nearly 200-square-foot, $65 million school building will open in September.

Two new career and technical programs are set to debut in Stafford County’s sixth high school, opening in 2025.

On Tuesday, the county’s School Board heard a recommendation to place aviation maintenance and advanced manufacturing programs at the new school, which will be located in Hartwood, in the southwestern portion of the county.


Prince William

Prince William County Public Schools has so much money, it doesn’t know yet what to do with it.

So, it’s asking the public for ideas on how to spend nearly $90 million in federal funds it just picked up in the latest round of stimulus funding. The school division will hold a public meeting Tuesday, June 15 at 6 p.m. at the Kelly Leadership Center, and virtually as an opportunity for residents’ input.

Parking spaces inside the Georgetown South neighborhood in Manassas are at a premium.

The city has distributed nearly 2,800 parking permits to neighborhood residents that have requested them. The problem: There are just 1,750 parking spaces in the neighborhood, located near the city’s downtown.


Prince William

Runners for Special Olympics Virginia will carry the touch through Woodbridge on Thursday, June 10 on its way to the games in Richmond.

About 9 a.m., runners will gather at a fire station at 15219 Holleyside Drive in Montclair, and from there run to the Gar-Field Eastern District police station at 15948 Donald Curtis Drive, via Cardinal Drive.
