Prince William police: “Allowing Access to Firearms by Children – On May 26 at 7:05PM, officers responded to investigate a shooting that was reported to have occurred at the Westgate Apartments located in the 8000 block of Ashland Ave. in Manassas (20109) at approximately 6:35PM.”

“The investigation revealed the victim, a 12-year-old male juvenile, was inside the apartment with his father, identified as the accused, when he was left unattended with a loaded firearm. The juvenile was handling the firearm when a round was fired from the weapon which then struck the victim in the leg. The accused contacted another family member who drove the victim to an area hospital where police were contacted.’

Prince William police: “Shooting Investigation – “On May 28 at 8:13PM, officers responded to the area of Delaware Dr. and Horizon Ct. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a shots fired call. The investigation revealed the victim, a 19-year-old woman, was driving when she briefly stopped her vehicle in the above area and observed two unknown men on the opposite side of the street.”

“At one point, the victim’s vehicle was struck by rounds fired by the men. The victim quickly drove to a nearby residence and contacted the police. The suspects fled the area prior to police arriving at the location. No injuries or additional property damage were reported. While checking the area, officers located shell casings in the roadway.”


The Stafford County Planning Commission recommended approval of a solar farm in the Falmouth District on May 24, 2023.

The Center Square: “A recent poll shows a majority of Northern Virginia residents support expanding the flight distance perimeter around Reagan National Airport, allowing the airport to accommodate more routes, thus making fares more competitive, according to supporters of the measure.”

“Recent legislation introduced by Utah congressmen Burgess Owens and Hank Johnson, known as The Direct Capital Access Act, part of the 2023 Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization bill, would allow for the increase and creation of longer-haul flights in and out of Reagan. The legislation would add 28 flights in and out of the 1960s-era perimeter rule for incoming and outgoing flights.”


Quantico

At 11 a.m. Monday, May 29, 2023, the Potomac Region Veterans Council partnered with Quantico National Cemetery and Quantico Marine Corps Base for its annual Memorial Day Ceremony.

RPV Chair Rich Anderson: “I moderated the ceremony with about 500 attendees. The featured speaker was Army Brig. Gen. James W. Ring, Assistant Adjutant General of Virginia who will become Adjutant General next Saturday and be promoted to major general (two stars).”

The Soak City water park inside Kings Dominion is open on weekends from noon until 7 p.m. The daily hours for both parks expand on June 10, when Soak City opens for daily summer operation.
