A Hot Independence Day Weather Forecast

A nearby frontal boundary will bring chances of daily showers and thunderstorms through the weekend. The cold front will move through the area on Saturday before stalling overhead, allowing precipitation chances to continue through midweek.

For the 4th of July, expect showers, thunderstorms, and hot and humid conditions. The primary threats with thunderstorms today will be damaging wind gusts and flash flooding.

Stafford Man Injured in Accidental Shooting

On Sunday, June 30, 2024, at around 5:45 p.m., Quincy Lamar Alexander, 42, of Stafford County, accidentally shot himself in the 300 block of Lafayette Boulevard in Fredericksburg. Witnesses heard the gunshot and saw Alexander exit his vehicle and collapse. They called 911, provided first aid until EMS arrived, and transported Alexander to a nearby hospital, police report.

Fredericksburg Police found a firearm and suspected narcotics in the vehicle. The incident was determined to be an accidental discharge, injuring Alexander’s lower body. Warrants were issued for Alexander on multiple charges, including possession of a firearm and narcotics, reckless handling of a firearm, and discharging a firearm in a public place.

Woman Rescued from Overturned Kayak at Leesylvania State Park

The woman was in the water while a child stood on the shore and called for help. The caller told 9-1-1 operators the woman was floating out into the river, away from the shoreline. At 2:37 p.m., a fisherman picked up the woman in his boat and brought her to safety.

During the incident, the woman was accompanied by a child on the shore. The child watched as the fisherman rescued the woman from the water.

Dunkin’ Drops Donuts at new Gainesville Restaurant

ç The store dropped Donuts from the name, calling it only “Dunkin’.”

On June 29th, franchisee Masul Haque cut the ribbon in partnership with the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation. He also presented a $500 check to The Haymarket Regional Food Pantry (HRFP) with a $500 grant. The first 100 people in line received coffee for a year.

Here are some things under lock and key at Walmart Supercenter, 217 Garrisonville Road. These items pictured in the photo gallery above include makeup, spray paint, and car batteries. To purchase these items, customers must now call a clerk for assistance. These items were unlocked earlier this year.

Items in the electronics section, such as headphones and Apple Computer products, have been kept under lock and key for years.

George Mason University Science Center Seeks Funding for New Dock and Boat

George Mason University’s Potomac Science Center in Woodbridge is raising funds for a new dock and a boat to enhance its environmental research and education efforts. Dr. Chris Jones, the academic director of the Potomac Environmental Research and Education Center, discussed the initiative at The Health of Our Waterways Gala event on June 28, 2024, held at the science center in Belmont Bay.

The new dock will enable students and researchers to access the Potomac River for hands-on learning experiences. Dr. Jones emphasized the importance of fieldwork, stating, “Rather than just giving lectures or showing videos about sampling and studying aquatic organisms in their habitat, we go out and collect them, experience them, make measurements in the field, and demonstrate the concepts that they’ve learned in lab and lecture in the real world.”
