Public schools across Prince William, Stafford, Fredericksburg, and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park will be closed for Thanksgiving break from Wednesday, November 26, through Friday, November 28, 2025.
In Prince William County, all schools and offices will be closed to the public during the break. The full announcement is available on the Prince William County Public Schools website.
“Marine Corps Base Quantico operates 43 live-fire ranges that support training from small arms to explosive demolitions to artillery fire to the delivery of live-aerial munitions,” Marine Corps Base Quantico announced. “Because training on Quantico is continuous, residents can expect to always hear some noise or feel vibrations.”
The base advised the public of scheduled live-fire activities through December 5, including small-arms training, inert rocket demonstrations, multi-day exercises, and artillery and mortar operations. Noise and vibrations may vary depending on location, weather, and time of day, and schedules remain subject to change based on operational needs.
Deputies responding to a 3:30 a.m. alarm at Hall Precision and Gun Smithing found evidence of an attempted break-in. Surveillance showed four suspects trying to force open a door before fleeing when the alarm sounded. Soon after, Fredericksburg Police reported a similar burglary involving the same suspects. The vehicle they used was later found to have been stolen from Prince William County.
By 8 a.m., a sharp-eyed school bus driver spotted four masked individuals near BJ’s Wholesale Club off Plank Road. Deputies responded, chased the teens on foot, and took them into custody. All were wearing clothes matching those seen in surveillance footage.
“Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, Occoquan Road (Route 906) between Horner Road (Route 639) and Old Bridge Road (Route 641) will be closed to through traffic for approximately two weeks,” the Virginia Department of Transportation announced. “Occoquan Road is scheduled to reopen at the I-95 overpass by 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24.”

The Rose Gaming Resort is teaming up with three Prince William County delegates to host a Thanksgiving turkey giveaway this Saturday, November 22, at Gar-Field Senior High School in Woodbridge. About 750 turkeys will be handed out free of charge to county residents on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 9 a.m.
The event is a partnership between The Rose’s parent company, Churchill Downs Incorporated, and Delegates Luke Torian (D-24), Candi Mundon King (D-23), and Briana Sewell (D-25). It’s part of the company’s ongoing community engagement through its “Rosie’s Gives Back” program, which supports charitable causes across Virginia.
“The brutal killing of Kalin Robinson in a parking lot in Woodbridge was deliberately orchestrated by the Defendant, Traivon Johnson,” Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office announced. “Without his cold and calculating actions, the murder would not have taken place. Although no sentence can bring Mr. Robinson back, the imposition of the maximum allowable sentence of 54 years in prison demonstrates that Traivon Johnson’s behavior will not be tolerated in our community.”
Mr. Johnson, 29, pled guilty on July 7, 2025, to multiple charges, including Second Degree Murder, Conspiracy, and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. He was sentenced on November 20, 2025, by Judge James A. Willett to 54 years of incarceration followed by three years of post-release supervision. Police determined he had planned the attack and matched cartridge casings from the crime scene to a firearm recovered from his residence.
A Fredericksburg man will serve more than 13 years in state prison after pleading guilty to attempted rape, assault and battery, and violating felony probation. The charges stem from a September 10, 2024, incident near Double Drive and College Avenue, located on the University of Mary Washington campus.
Raymond Mungro III was sentenced on November 19, 2025, in Fredericksburg Circuit Court to 13 years and 4 months of active time. The court suspended an additional 10 years and 4 months, and imposed conditions including no contact with the victim, supervised probation after release, and compliance with sex offender registration laws.

The county’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held Friday, December 5, 2025, from 5:55 to 8 p.m. at the Government Center Campus. The evening includes performances from local schools, artisans and crafters, food trucks, and a 7 p.m. tree lighting. Free parking will be available at the VDOT commuter lot on Courthouse Road with shuttle service, and limited accessible parking will be offered on-site.
A Virginia State Police trooper was injured early Thursday morning, November 21, while assisting at a crash scene on Interstate 66 eastbound near the Capital Beltway.
The incident occurred around 6:40 a.m., when the trooper, who was inside his patrol car with emergency lights activated, was struck by a Lexus SUV in the right lane of the I-66 Express Lanes. At the time, he was responding to a previous crash involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle that was blocking lanes in both the mainline and Express Lanes.
