Greetings, Prince William – “You ought to be in pictures…” The fun folks at Prince William County Solid Waste Division are looking for volunteer county residents of all ages (and pets, too!) to participate in filming a video on landfill safety.  The filming date is Wednesday, June 8, 9:30 am-12 pm at the Prince William County Landfill, 14811 Dumfries Road, Manassas 20112.  You’ll have a fun time filming your “close-up” while promoting landfill safety to the public!  Please send an email with your name, phone and a photo of yourself, your vehicle, child, and pet (if applicable) to [email protected] by June 6.  Please email [email protected] for more information.

[Updated Tuesday, May 31, 2022] On Sunday, May 29t at 7:39 p.m. rescue crews were called to Austin Ridge Drive near Shields Road for a crash involving two vehicles. Drivers of both vehicles, and a passenger died at the scene.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit is continuing to investigate the crash.

Leamon died in a helicopter crash on Oct 26, 2009, during his third deployment to Afghanistan. He and two other DEA special agents, along with seven U.S. soldiers, were on a joint, covert mission to combat drug trafficking as part of the Forward Deployed Advisory Support Team, or FAST, program. All 10 died on the mission and are buried together at Arlington National Cemetery.

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently commended a pair of churches and an outreach ministry for their work in helping the homeless in Prince William County.

The Manassas Baptist Church and Streetlight Community Outreach Ministries served the county’s unhoused in partnership with the Prince William County Department of Social Services through the local hypothermia program operated on the western and eastern ends of the county.

Memorial Day is here is fast approaching and families are looking forward to summer vacations.

For many, that will include heading to waterparks, pools, spas, or recreational areas that may be in or near water. When doing so, the Prince William County Fire and Rescue System advises families to take the necessary precautions to prevent drownings.

(The Center Square) – As Virginia lawmakers continue to debate the specifics of a proposed lab school program, Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears is arguing university-run charter schools, also known as lab schools, could help increase diversity in higher education.

Lab schools would be public K-12 schools run by a university or other higher education institution, which would focus on testing different education models and studying how various models affect students. Currently, there are no lab schools in Virginia and there are fewer than 10 charter schools.

The project will also convert the current southbound alignment into a two-way roadway for local traffic.

The 2-mile project will include retaining walls, storm drainage improvements, stormwater management facilities, pedestrian, and multi-modal improvements. The purpose project is to relieve existing and projected traffic congestion, manage access, as well as improve safety by including pedestrian infrastructure.

The Mommy Room at Woodbridge Senior High School Lake Ridge has a new look.

Math teacher Joshua Johnson painted the room a soothing blue and added the letters “LOVE” to each wall. Former student Carolina Block helped make bulletin boards for staff members to hang up pictures of their babies. Executive Administrative Assistant Anita Sweeney, Assistant Principal Cynthia Treichler, and math teacher Katherine Mulligan also helped decorate the room.

Stephen Strasburg pitched five no-hit innings and faced one over the minimum in his second rehab start, Sammy Infante and Leandro Emiliani both hit two home runs, and the FredNats beat the Salem Red Sox 7-4 on Sunday, May 29, 2022, in front of over 5,600 fans at Virginia Credit Union Stadium to split the series with Salem.

Strasburg had six strikeouts and just one walk in five no-hit innings. He threw 58 pitches and 38 strikes, and was very sharp in his second rehab stint in Fredericksburg this week.
