Kona Ice, a shaved ice company, is expanding into Bristow, Nokesville, and Quantico and will feature entertainment, frozen treats, and new fundraising opportunities in the area.

Kona’s truck, which began serving the community in March, offers a self-service dispensing system allowing for full customization. Guests have the option to choose from the 20-plus flavors and four different sizing options; child size (nine ounces), classic (12 ounces), large (16 ounces), and what the company calls a Kowabunga size (22 ounces).

Prince William police are searching for suspects in a murder that occurred on Sunday, May 21, in Woodbridge.

Murder Investigation – On May 21 at 2:43PM, officers responded to the Misty Ridge Apartments located in the 15000 block of Lost Canyon Ct in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a shooting. The investigation revealed the victim, a 25-year-old man, and another man were involved in a verbal altercation in front of the complex over an ongoing dispute. At one point, gunfire was exchanged between the parties, and the victim was struck in the lower body. The suspect fled the scene following the encounter. Officers arrived on scene and provided first aid to the victim until fire and rescue personnel arrived. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries. Detectives are currently following up on leads into the investigation and suspect. More information will be released when available. The investigation continues.


The Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) has announced that nine students whose families are served by the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) have been awarded $1,000 scholarships by the VMDAEC’s Education Scholarship Foundation.

The association awarded 67 scholarships based on financial need, academic achievement, and personal statements; of the 15 co-ops comprising the VMDAEC, NOVEC tied for the most scholarship recipients. Rappahannock Electric Cooperative students also earned nine.
