OWL VDF volunteers log 53,000 hours

Volunteer firefighters and EMS responders reported 46,246.98 operational hours volunteered, while administrative volunteers had 6,900 hours.

“The commitment of both our operational and administration members at OWL VFD is truly remarkable,” said President Wayne Haight of OWL VFD. “Our volunteers are fully trained and certified, capable of handling various emergencies, and our administration members work tirelessly behind the scenes to support our operational efforts. Together, they embody the spirit of service that defines our organization.”

International arrest made in connection to Dale City triple homicide

The suspect, identified as Donald Antonio Barahona Quinonez, 28, of no fixed address, faces charges including three counts of murder, one count of aggravated malicious wounding, four counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and four counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling.

The incident, initially reported as a quadruple shooting on Birchdale Avenue, left three men dead and a fourth man seriously injured. The victims have been identified as Edwin Geovanny Salmeron, 37; Luis Alonzo Salgado-Rivas, 41; and Kevin Josue Vallencillo Mendoza, 23, all of Woodbridge.

Spring paper shred at Pfitzner Stadium

Resident drives up to shred truck with containers of confidential documents in the vehicle’s rear. Assistance is provided so residents do not have to get out of their vehicle.

Press Release: “The Prince William County Solid Waste Division will hold a free document shred event for Prince William area residents on Saturday, March 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or until trucks reach capacity).”

“The shred event will be held in the Pfitzner Stadium parking lot area, 7 County Complex Court, Woodbridge. This event is for residents. Only confidential documents such as bank statements and tax returns will be accepted.”

Virginia Conservation Lobby Day to address data center legislation

Manassas National Battlefield Park Visitor Center is located on Route 234 near Manassas, Virginia.

In an effort to advocate for policies safeguarding national parks, clean water, and combating climate change, the Virginia Conservation Network, in collaboration with the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), is gearing up for the annual 2024 Conservation Lobby Day on Wednesday, January 31.

This significant event aims to unite environmental supporters from across the state, addressing the constant threats faced by Virginia’s national parks, particularly from the proliferation of data centers. The General Assembly is set to consider various bills in 2024 to tackle the impacts of data centers, including rising electricity costs and environmental pressures.

Colgan administrator named 2024 outstanding assistant principal

On January 17, 2024, Karyn Riddle, Assistant Principal at Charles J. Colgan Sr. High School, was honored as the 2024 Outstanding Secondary School Assistant Principal of Virginia by the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals (VASSP). According to a Prince William County Schools spokeswoman, a panel of school leaders, including principals and division superintendents, carefully selected Riddle for this prestigious recognition.

Riddle, a proud graduate of Osbourn Park High School, has dedicated 24 years to the education of students in Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS). Her journey began at Osbourn Park High, where she spent a decade teaching and served as the school’s assistant principal for four years. Subsequently, Riddle contributed eight years in the central office as a student management supervisor, specializing in leadership development. In 2018, she assumed the role of assistant principal at Colgan High.
