On June 12, detectives charged Tavaris Maleek Eberhardt with murder in connection to the fatal shooting of Carlos Marcell Moore on May 23 near Manassas. Eberhardt, already incarcerated on an unrelated charge, allegedly shot Moore after a verbal altercation and attempted to remove evidence from the scene; firearms were found in a storage unit rented by Eberhardt, though they were not used in the shooting.

The Coles District will hold its annual Dumpster Day on June 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at West Gate Elementary School, located at 8031 Urbanna Road near Manassas. This event is open to all county citizens at no cost. The county’s website provides additional information on Dumpster Days, including what items are accepted and specific guidelines for the event.

Residents are asked to ensure that refrigerators are emptied of their contents and cleaned. Glass trays should be removed from microwaves, and the doors should be secured with tape. The following items will not be accepted at the event: fuel tanks, motor oil, fuel drums, household hazardous waste, antifreeze, paint thinners, pesticides, pool chemicals, commercial waste, and electronics. These items can be disposed of at the county landfill.


Today, Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 3:57 a.m., fire crews were called to. Crews quickly controlled the fully engulfed detached garage, with no injuries reported, and the cause is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.

At 12:55 a.m., units were dispatched to a townhouse fire near Manassas in the 7600 block of Monitor Court. The fire started on the rear side of the home and was swiftly controlled, though the house sustained moderate damage and was deemed unsafe to occupy. One adult female was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and the Red Cross is assisting four displaced adults. The exact cause is still under investigation.
