The 1.2-mile improvement, located in the Gainesville Magisterial District, includes not only the widening of the roadway, but also a 16-foot-wide grass median, a 10-foot-wide shared-use path and a 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalk along the south and north side of the road respectively.
Prince William County Gainesville District Supervisor Bob Weir thanked the staff and all involved in building and completing the $64-million project. “Glad you brought it in on time and under budget … congratulations,” Weir said.
The Rappahannock Regional Solid Waste Management Board (R-Board) and Aquia Harbour Host Lions Club’s Electronics Recycling Program was recognized as a silver medal winner for the 2024 Governor’s Environmental Excellence Awards.
The awards were announced on April 9, 2024 at the Environment Virginia Symposium held at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington. The awards recognize innovative programs that are improving Virginia’s environment.

Through this event, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about green infrastructure and provide feedback about where in the community green infrastructure may be needed.
Green infrastructure is a practice that captures and absorbs rainwater where it falls. Since water cannot be absorbed by impervious surfaces such as roads, roofs, and parking lots, urban areas experience increased rates of runoff that lead to erosion and flooding.
The Riverfront Park parking lot, located on Sophia Street near Wolfe Street, will be converted to 2-hour parking 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Additionally, the final on-street parking signage around the William Square project (focused on the 600 and 700 blocks of Amelia Street, as well as Douglas, William and Winchester Streets and Washington Avenue) will be implemented by the City in an effort to support the nearby businesses while protecting area neighborhoods.
On April 16, Bonaventure celebrated the opening of a new multifamily community on the former Sears lot at Fredericksburg’s Spotsylvania Towne Center Mall. The project broke ground in April 2022 and was completed on schedule. The project is expected to create over $1.15 million in tax revenues and has 271 rental units.

Prince William County Public Schools press release: Local elected officials joined Prince William County School Board members and Superintendent of Schools Dr. LaTanya D. McDade in a ceremony to celebrate the construction of “Woodbridge Area” Elementary School. The state-of-the-art school is scheduled to open for the 2025-26 school year at the corner of Route 1 and Prince William Parkway, near Fred Lynn Middle School.

Stafford focused this year on advancing its strategic priorities for the community. Highlights of the year include a 15% pay raise to deputies with the rank of 1st Sergeant and below, one of the most significant transfers to Stafford County Public Schools ever, the construction of a new water tank, conducting a Community Survey, the launch of AskBlu – a new customer service online tool and the dedication of a new funding stream dedicated to transportation projects.
Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative will accept post-holiday cut Christmas trees and greens at its Gainesville technical center at 5399 Wellington Branch Road, near Interstate 66 and Route 29, from Dec. 26, 2022, to Jan. 9, 2023. Consumers should leave greens in the parking lot area designated by orange safety cones.
All greens must be free of all decorations, ornament hooks, wires, and light strings.
