The pandemic consumed Lateef’s second term. The school division scrambled to help students and teachers adjust to online learning and then adjust to getting them back into school buildings as the pandemic waned.

The Democrat pushed the division to be the first public school division in the Washington, D.C. area to return children to the classroom, in phases, in December 2020. He later took heat from fellow Democrats for his push to return children to the classroom.


The first Republican to run for the Woodbridge District Supervisors seat on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors in eight years had 150 people attend her kickoff party near Occoquan.

Jeannie LaCroix, 61, held a campaign kick-off event at the Electric Palm Restaurant on Thursday, February 23, with over 150 people in attendance. Supervisors Yesli Vega and Jeanine Lawson spoke at the campaign kickoff.


A familiar face at the Prince William County Government Center will seek a seat on the county school board.

Erica Tredinnick, 36, is seeking the Republican nomination endorsement in the Brentsville District for Prince William County School Board in the 2023 general election. Adele Jackson has held the seat since 2020 and received support from the Democrats.


The Prince William County Government removed an online survey asking employees about their gender identity, sexual orientation, and whether or not they feel valued at work after Supervisor Yesli Vega shared the survey with her constituents.

The 21-question survey (see it here) cost taxpayers $78,000, or about $3,700 per question, and was conducted by DiversityMBA/Learning Solutions, according to an email from Maria Burgos, the county’s equity and inclusion officer.


Prince William County General Registrar Eric Olsen says a Washington State-based ballot printing service claimed responsibility for a $10,000 Election Day snafu.

Olsen said that K&H Printing in Everette, Washington, produced larger ballots than ballot-scanning machines in Prince William County could accommodate. The error led to a small number of ballots being hand counted in a Special Election on Tuesday, February 24, 2023.


Weir beat his Democrat challenger Kerensa Sumers in a landslide 30-point victory today in a Special Election to determine who will complete the term of former Gainesville District Supervisor Peter Candland, who designed in Decembe022 after 10 years on the job.

Weir’s election is widely seen as a referendum on data centers and development, an answer to a Board of County Supervisors that continues to press forward on plaBattlefieldeNationalr more server farms in both residential areas in Bristow, and historical areas like the Manassas Battlefield National Park.


A Special Election will decide who will serve the remainder of Peter Candland’s term on the Board of County Supervisors ending on December 31, 2023. Democrat Kerensa Sumers and Republican Bob Weir are vying to replace Candland, who resigned in December 2022 after ten years serving on the board.

The Quantico Town Council appointed Brandi Maly as a member of the six-member governing board that oversees the only independent town in the U.S. located within the borders of a military base.

We first told you earlier this month Seungwon Kang refused his appointment to the town council after winning the third-most votes out of 13 candidates who sought one of six seats on the council.
