Prince William

The Prince William County Criminal Justice Academy Basic Law Enforcement 52nd Session graduated on Monday, March 13, 2023, in a ceremony at Grace Life Community Church in Bristow. This class comprised 12 Prince William County Police officers and three Prince William County Sheriff’s deputies.

The 15 men and women completed a 24-week course of training in all aspects of police work, including classes in firearms, use-of-force decision-making, driver training, legal training, patrol techniques, criminal investigation and crash investigation. The graduating law enforcement personnel are listed below, and brief biographies of each graduate follow:

The Prince William County Alumnae Chapter’s Delta DEARS coordinated a book drive to collect new books for two Title 1 Prince William County elementary schools.

The DEARS, as they are known, are members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., who are aged 62 years or older. D.E.A.R.S is an acronym for Dedicated Energetic Active Respected Sorors.

The Fredericksburg Nationals announced Eric Bach as the new play-by-play voice of the FredNats.

Bach replaces Joey Zanaboni, who left for a position in Major League Soccer last month. Bach will call all 132 games on the FredNats Baseball Network and all home games on MiLB TV and the free Bally Sports App. He will also head up the team’s media relations efforts.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office gave me a tour of its facilities and a view of how each division creates one functioning department. 

Captain Ray Davis gave this tour. He was very kind in explaining the job from the ground up to the higher levels of admin.

Manassas will celebrate its 150th Anniversary on Saturday, April 1, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Jennie Dean Park, 9501 Dean Park Lane.

There will be a ceremony at 3 p.m., games, food, a hayride, games, and fireworks at the end of the celebration. Residents who attend the event in person from 2 to 6 p.m., and bring a stamped envelope or postcard, can also get a commemorative stamp from the USPS.

Greetings, Prince William – Attention Plant Lovers and Gardeners!  Leopold’s Preserve, 16290 Thoroughfare Road in Broad Run, is offering a series of family-friendly training for volunteers to be certified in invasive vine removal at their facility.

Once certified, volunteers can come to the Preserve any time, on their own schedule, and independently work to remove invasive vines.  Training is required to learn more about invasive vine identification and removal techniques.


Obituaries

Donald L. “Don” Wilson, 79, of Manassas, Virginia, passed away on March 6, 2023.

Wilson was the hallmark of The Ruth E. Lloyd Information Center (RELIC), at Bull Run Library and later Central Library of the Prince William Public Libraries, where he was known as the “Tree Doctor” for his extensive knowledge, experience, and patience with helping visitors build their family trees. He was also instrumental in providing research on old houses, cemeteries, events, roads, and local families. He was always up for a new and exciting research project that so many people benefited from.
