Fredericksburg City Public Schools has released a newly approved elementary school zone map that will go into effect for the 2025-26 school year. In a Facebook post, the school division encouraged families to explore the changes, share the news with others, and prepare for what’s ahead.

STAFFORD, Va. – A new class of future first responders is ready to serve.
In a Facebook post, Stafford County Public Schools congratulated the graduates of High School Fire Academy 6, a program that prepares high school students for careers in fire and emergency services. The photo shows a proud group of students in uniform standing in front of the Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department, smiling with certificates in hand.
In a Facebook post, Fredericksburg Parks, Recreation & Events invited families to come cool off and enjoy the splash pad, now running for the season. The downtown park, located at 701 Sophia Street, also includes green space, a playground, and scenic views of the Rappahannock River.
Riverfront Park was named Virginia’s Best New Facility in 2023 and sits just steps from local shops and restaurants, making it a great stop for summer outings.
STAFFORD, Va. – Stafford County residents gathered at the Armed Services Memorial on Friday, May 23, 2025, for the county’s annual Memorial Day Ceremony, a time to honor and remember those who gave their lives in service to the nation.
Board of Supervisors Chairman Deuntay Diggs opened the ceremony by thanking those in attendance and inviting veterans and their families to stand. “We welcome you and thank you for coming today to help us honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom,” said Diggs. “We do this because it is our solemn sacred duty, but more than that, we do it to ensure their sacrifice was not in vain”.
MANASSAS PARK, Va. – Residents, local officials, and veterans came together at 1 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2025, for the city’s third annual Memorial Day Flag Ceremony, held in front of City Hall. The solemn event honored the brave men and women who died in service to the country.
The ceremony opened with a presentation of colors by the Manassas Park Honor Guard and included remarks from city leaders and veterans’ advocates. Mayor Alanna Mensing highlighted the city’s historical ties to military service, noting that Manassas Park was originally founded as a community for returning veterans. “I feel both humbled and proud to stand with you… to lower our flag in honor of those who never made it home,” she said.
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – A crash involving a tractor-trailer and another vehicle has shut down two of the three southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Caroline County.
The incident occurred at mile marker 108, about two miles south of Exit 110 (Ladysmith). Only one southbound lane remains open, causing traffic to back up for at least five miles north of the crash scene. Officials say delays are expected to grow.
OCCOQUAN, Va. – A downed tree and a blown transformer caused road closures and power outages in the Town of Occoquan on Friday evening, prompting a quick response from town officials and utility crews.
Around 7 p.m., a public safety alert from the Town of Occoquan announced that Tanyard Hill Road was closed in both directions between Old Bridge Road and Union Street due to fallen trees. At the same time, a power outage hit the Route 123 traffic light, and drivers were urged to steer clear of the area.
