Ian Lovejoy, a staple in Manassas politics for the past 10 years, is making a run for the Virginia Senate.
Lovejoy, a Republican, is the first to announce his candidacy for the newly-created 30th district, which includes the cities of Manassas, Manassas Park, as well as Haymarket town, and Gainesville in western Prince William County.
For the second time since becoming county police chief in January 2021, Peter Newsham will answer the Prince William Committee of 100. The civic group meets periodically, and hosts discussions about community interest, including political forums.
“When we previously had Chief Newsham speak, he was very new to the job and largely spoke with reference to earlier periods of his career and his most immediate objectives in his new role. We have asked him to return to review his first year in Prince William County,” said Prince William Committee of 100 President Cynthia Chambliss.
Several businesses near Interstate 66 were smashed, and their employees reported cash missing from registers.
On Monday, March 14 at 6:50 a.m., officers went to the Promenade at Manassas shopping center located in the 7600 block of Stream Walk Ln near Manassas to investigate multiple commercial burglaries.

A Stafford County public servant passed away.
Supervisor Lindbergh A. Fritter, 93, died on March 9, 2022. Fritter served five terms as the Griffis-Widewater District on the Board of Supervisors representative from 1972 to 1979, 1984, and 1992 to 1999.

(The Center Square) – Virginia legislation that would establish a funding stream to build a new NFL stadium for the Washington Commanders will be pushed to a special session, but a resolution to enshrine felon voting rights in the constitution is dead.
At about 10 o’clock tonight, I-66 East will be closed with two-way traffic running on I-66 West so that crews can safely install bridge beams over the eastbound lanes. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
The ramp from Route 234 Business North and South to I-66 East will also be closed both nights with detours posted.
[Updated 11:30 a.m. March 16] Elva Clarene Ritenour, 88, of Nokesville, died in a fire at her home on Tuesday, March 15.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The victim was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing.
