Prince William County names Shorter new CXO

Christopher Shorter will come from Baltimore to lead the Prince William County Government. In a 6-2 vote today, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors hired Shorter and agreed to pay him a $350,000 annual salary. Supervisors Jeanine Lawson and Yesli Vega opposed his hiring.

The free ticket lottery for the 100th National Christmas Tree Lighting is open, the National Park Service announced today. This year’s event takes place on Wednesday, Nov. 30 on the Ellipse in President’s Park. Free tickets are awarded through an online lottery, which opened today at 10 a.m. and closes at 10 a.m. on November 1.

One hospitalized after Lake Ridge house fire

One man is in a hospital after a fire at a home in Lake Ridge. Fire crews went to the 12000 block of Hatchway Court at 5:19 a.m. to find heavy smoke and fire at a single-family home. One of two occupants inside the home suffered serious burns, and is now in a hospital.

Yesli Vega rode into her campaign, standing atop a motorcoach, waiving at a crowd of more than 400 people gathered near Dumfries to see her. U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) stood next to the 7th-District Congressional candidate as the bus pulled into Montclair Tabernacle Church, at 16120 Dumfries Road. It was Vega’s second rally with high-profile politicians in Prince William County in the past three days.
