Washington, D.C. Fire and EMS: “Amtrak derailment in tunnel at entrance to Union Station. Initial report minor in nature & no reported injuries. Fire units are working to reach the train, which is occupied.”
Press Release: “Sylvan Learning Center is excited to announce its school supply drive to support the children and families within the local community.”
“The drive will take place during the month of July and all donations will be used to help students in the Stafford community.
George Washington Regional Commission: “During its meeting on June 26, 2023, the George Washington Regional Commission elected officers for Fiscal Year 2023-2024, which began July 1.”
By unanimous approval, the officers elected were:
Virginia Railway Express: “Pressure washing of the Manassas parking garage interior and exterior is scheduled for this weekend, July 15-16.”
“The garage will be closed. Vehicles should not be left in the garage this weekend. Remaining vehicles will be relocated within the garage as necessary.”
Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative: “Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) awarded $1,500 scholarships to 14 area high school seniors in May. An independent panel of judges evaluated applicants on their academic records, community involvement, work experience, demonstrated leadership, recommendations, and essays.”
“Judges also recognized Alexis Francis, of Prince William County, as the most outstanding student among the group of recipients. She received an additional $1,500 as the winner of the J. Manley Garber Scholarship, named for the late NOVEC Board of Directors chairman. Francis plans to attend Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia.”

National Weather Service Baltimore-Washington: “Dry and increasingly hot conditions are expected through midweek, with highs reaching the low to mid 90s. Typical summertime afternoon storms return to the forecast Thursday & Friday, and the increase in humidity keeps conditions feeling muggy and hot.”
The unidentified woman, a career firefighter in Louisa County, was ejected from a fire engine when it crashed on Sunday, July 9, 2023. She was taken to a hospital, where she is in stable condition.
The crash occurred in Louisa County, about an hour southwest of Stafford.
