The NWS predicts that gusty winds and drier conditions will return in the system’s wake, beginning Saturday night and extending into Sunday as high pressure builds into the region. This shift in weather patterns is expected to relieve areas affected by the heavy rainfall.

Stafford students pack 9,350 meals after $17K grant from Giant Food

“Students used the grant funds to purchase 9,350 pantry staple items and package spring break meal kits for families facing food insecurity in the school system. As an integral part of the project, students researched the prevalence of food insecurity in our area, concurrently orchestrating the logistics for the efficient packing of the meal boxes.”

“A total of 27 schools participated in the initiative, collectively requesting 385 meal kits. Impressively, within a mere 2.5 hours, the dedicated students successfully constructed, packed, sealed, and loaded all 385 boxes, ready for distribution to the participating schools.”

Planners show several options for new Rappahannock Crossing

At Fredericksburg, three bridges cross the Rappahannock River to keep traffic flowing at Interstate 95 and points east. West of I-95, the closest bridge is over 40 miles away, increasing congestion and stress for many drivers.

This fueled much discussion at the “Rappahannock River Crossing Parkway Alternatives Study,” a Fredericksburg Area Metropolitan Planning Organization meeting.

Residents across the region are bracing for a widespread soaking as an area of low pressure moves northward from the Gulf Coast and southern Appalachians. The National Weather Service predicts a significant rainfall event beginning later today and extending into tonight, with a cold front ushering in the precipitation.

Stage Door Productions celebrates 25th season in Fredericksburg

Ray Manfredi, president of Stage Door Productions, said the group’s 25th season is a milestone. The group was formed in 1999 when a handful of local actors and theater fans wanted to bring new experiences to the community. Manfredi notes that SDP is “one of the first organized community theaters in Fredericksburg and…the longest operating community theater in the …area.”

Manfredi said the heart of the theater is the community of volunteers and performers. Each season features new faces alongside returning actors. Manfredi emphasized that “community theater survives on volunteers:” the set designers, costume designers, and actors are all unpaid volunteers.

Voodoo Brothers to replace Okra’s Cajun Creole

Voodoo Brothers will replace the once-popular Okra’s Cajun Creole restaurant in Downtown Manassas.

The new owners, Luke Tamer and Antonio Escamilla plan to bring “Bourbon Street” to Center Street, adding crawfish boils and an outdoor bar, the told the city government, included the restaurant announcement in its newsletter.

New traffic signal on Route 1 in front of new VA hospital

VDOT will activate a new traffic signal at the Veterans Health Administration clinic entrance in Spotsylvania County, near Fredericksburg.

The traffic signal is on Route 1 between the Mine Road and Market Street intersections. It will initially serve construction and employee traffic before the clinic opens.
