Every year, the Lake Ridge Parks and Recreation Association accepts nominations through the beginning of December for the best-decorated house in the area.
The LRPRA posts the entries on its social media pages, where they can be liked and voted on, to decide a winner.
The park in Doswell, Virginia, will open from 5 p.m. until 12:30 a.m., with rides closing at 10 p.m. as the New Year’s countdown party begins under the Eiffel Tower and concludes with a fantastic firework show planned at the stroke of midnight.
The New Year’s Eve celebration is also one of the last two operating days for the WinterFest event at the park for 2022. WinterFest has millions of Christmas lights, nearly 1,000 Christmas trees, and festive décor displayed throughout the 400-acre park. The iconic Eiffel Tower is transformed into a 300-foot-tall Christmas tree, and the well-known International Street fountains are turned into an ice-skating plaza known as Snowflake Lake.
For the 25th consecutive year, the Dale City Knights of Columbus have presented teddy bears — 350 of them — to the Prince William County Police Department.
The teddy bears are kept in police cars and given to children and others at accident scenes and other traumatic events.
Fredericksburg Square, featuring Hot Chikn Kitchn and Water’s End Brewery, will host its Grand Opening on Saturday, December 31 from noon until 7 p.m.

This morning, Tuesday, December 20, 2022, soldiers Derek Eich and Brock Emery of the U.S. Army Caisson Platoon presented students at Widewater Elementary School with a commemorative plaque after the kindergarten class won a naming contest for “Gunther,” one of the platoon’s new horses.
The two soldiers answered particular questions about Gunther, including “How soft is Gunther,” (He’s the softest horse ever) “How fast can Gunther run,” (about 35 mph) and “How many friends does Gunther have?” (About 48)
Today is the last day to donate to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office annual toy drive. The sheirff’s office sits at 1225 Courthouse Road in Stafford.
