Many newly graduated college alumni like the familiarity of the college town, so they stick around after they get the degree for one reason or another. It’s still known as ‘home,’ making escaping hard.

“I love this area,” said Katie Ambrosini, a senior at the University of Mary Washington who is graduating in a few weeks with an English degree and currently works at a nearby Starbucks. I want to try to get a full-time job if I can,” she said, putting her degree to work.


Amazon confirmed the closure in a statement, saying:

“Certain store locations work better than others, and after an assessment of our offering we’ve decided to close our Amazon Fresh store in Manassas. Customers in the area can continue to shop from a wide selection of grocery products at Amazon.com/grocery with same-day delivery options, or from our other Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market stores in the area. We remain committed to Amazon Fresh and our broader grocery strategy and will continue to refine our portfolio of stores as we learn which locations and features resonate most with customers.”

After more than ten years of bringing craft beer and community together, Tin Cannon Brewing Company is closing its doors. The announcement was made by co-founders John Hilkert and Aaron Ludwig, who shared a heartfelt message with their patrons, reflecting on their journey as small business owners and their decision to move on to new adventures.

“Tin Cannon Brewing Company has had the pleasure of bringing a large part of the community together for over ten years,” the owners stated. “We have met so many wonderful people, formed amazing friendships, made a difference through important fundraisers, and created a ‘Cheers’ taproom atmosphere with our friendly staff, delicious beers, and fun events.”


Shoppers at Potomac Mills mall in Woodbridge will find a fresh new look at the food court, which has been rebranded as the Dining Pavilion following an extensive remodel.

The renovation, first announced last fall, aimed to elevate the dining experience for mall-goers with a modern aesthetic and new amenities. The upgraded Pavilion features sleek new flooring, contemporary lighting, and a refreshed color palette, creating a more stylish and inviting atmosphere.


In December 2024, Northeastern Supply, a plumbing, HVAC, PVF, and water system supplies distributor, opened its new location at 9751 Center Street in the former Southern States feed store building.

The 37,000-square-foot industrial facility now serves as a consolidated location for Northeastern Supply’s Prince William County and Loudoun County operations. The company, which has been in business since 1945, has a reputation for strong customer relationships, extensive inventory, and high-quality service for contractors. With 42 locations across Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, Northeastern Supply has become a trusted name in the construction and home improvement industries.


The sign, which overlooks Interstate 95, marks a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to modernize the retail hub. It is a refreshed version of the shopping center’s original signage, which has stood since its opening 30 years ago.

Steven Crews, a spokesman for Central Park, confirmed that the updated sign is part of a broader initiative to enhance the shopping experience. “Modernizing the ‘Big Red’ sign to match the motif of the new I-95 sign, as well as updating directional signs throughout the complex, is all part of our vision for the future of Central Park,” Crews said.


Potomac Mills Mall is preparing to welcome U.S. Polo Assn. Outlet,  the official clothing brand of the United States Polo Association (USPA).

U.S. Polo Assn. offers clothing, accessories, luggage, watches, and shoes for men, women, and children. The new store will open on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, giving shoppers access to a selection of classically styled pieces that embody the heritage of the sport of polo. According to a press release from the mall, a portion of the brand’s proceeds also supports the promotion of the game in the U.S. and worldwide.


A new gym is set to open in Dumfries, bringing 24/7 fitness access to the community. Workout Anytime will celebrate its grand opening on February 13 at 18069 Triangle Shopping Plaza (Suite C&D), offering state-of-the-art equipment, personalized training, and a commitment to fostering a healthier lifestyle.

At the helm of the new gym is Gary Wortham Jr., a former James Madison University football player and recruiter, taking on the general manager role. Wortham, a longtime Dumfries resident, is excited to bring his passion for fitness and community building to this new venture.
