VDOT: Roundabout construction at Lee Hill School Dr and Old Dominion Pkwy

Construction will be begin on a roundabout at Lee Hill School Dr and Old Dominion Parkway

VDOT: The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and its contractor will begin building an intersection improvement project at Lee Hill School Drive and Old Dominion Parkway in Spotsylvania County on Monday, April 29. The intersection is just over a mile from Lee’s Hill Golf Club.

The project will transform the existing four-way intersection into a mini roundabout. Additional lighting at the intersection will be installed as part of the project.

Woodbridge Woman’s Club brings comfort to Sentara cancer survivors

Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center press release: Dedicated volunteers from the Woodbridge Woman’s Club (WWC) gather twice a month at the Sentara Cancer Network Resource Center on the campus of Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center (SNVMC) to put their sewing talents to work creating heart-shaped pillows and other comfort items. Crafted by hand and made with love, these pillows are given free of charge to Sentara cancer and surgery patients.

The Health and Wellness Pillow Making Project began as a volunteer-driven, community service project to help support individuals facing cancer diagnoses. People find relief from acute pain by holding the pillows to their chests. Just as importantly, they find reassurance in knowing that people care.

VDOT: Nighttime lane closures on I-95 in Prince William County

VDOT: PRINCE WILLIAM – Beginning Sunday night, April 28, weather permitting, a portion of the northbound and southbound I-95 general purpose lanes in Prince William County will have nighttime single- and double-lane closures until late fall for roadway joint repairs and paving, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. At least one lane will remain open in each direction at all times.

The lane closures will occur Sunday nights through Thursday nights, with Friday nights being used as backup dates in case of inclement weather:

Dumfries 275th anniversary gala sold out

Dumfries is Virginia's oldest continually chartered town.

On Friday, May 10, Dumfries will celebrate the 275th anniversary of the original charter for Dumfries.

The festivities will begin May 10 with a sold-out black-tie dinner at the National Museum for the Marine Corps. The dinner will have keynote speeches by local dignitaries, historical presentations on Dumfries’ intriguing history as a port town, and a commemorative program. The keynote speaker has yet to be announced.

Once on the edge of selling to a private owner, a beloved community pool has a new board of directors working to rejuvenate the facility and keep the neighborhood pool tradition alive.

Ferry Farm Community Pool, in Stafford County near Fredericksburg, is hosting a fundraiser at Stafford’s Highmark Brewery on Saturday, April 27, 2024. The family-friendly event includes live music, a bounce house, face painting for children, and a cornhole tournament with a cash prize. The pool is a non-profit community pool located near Ferry Farm. Memberships are available to the public.

Sheriff’s report: Shooting, catches Corona DUI

Several vehicles were involved in a shooting on April 12 in England Run.

The following reports are from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office:

Stafford County Sheriff is asking for public assistance in investigating an April 12 shooting. Deputies reported to Shasta Place at 10:38 p.m. and learned a red vehicle may have been involved. Several vehicles were shot, but no injuries were reported. The police are asking citizens to review any video cameras that may have captured footage of the incident or a suspicious vehicle.
