Prince William landfill will show residents how it powers homes

Press release:

With interest growing in how landfills can benefit local communities, the public and media are invited to tour Prince William Energy, a renewable landfill gas to energy (LFG) plant at the Prince William County Landfill. The tour is part of the Prince William Recycles Day event on Saturday, October 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The LFG plant owner/operator Fortistar, management specialists focused on investments in energy sources for transitioning to a zero carbon economy, is a sponsor of the annual free event.

Fortistar’s 6.8 MW LFG plant generates enough clean, renewable energy to power more than 4,355 homes. The company financed, built and operates the plant; the energy is purchased by NOVEC to power local homes.

Prince William County residents and local media are encouraged to attend this family-friendly event, which is organized and hosted by the County, to learn more about the importance of recycling, reuse and waste reduction and how that benefits the local environment and the economy. This free event will feature “Recyclemania” by Billy B. Plus, landfill tours, lots of fun games, prizes, face painting, free food, music, a recycled art display, and interactive equipment displays and trucks.
