NOKESVILLE, Va. — A local rugby team will take on a team from New York this weekend. The action will be right in our back yard.
Here’s more in an unedited press release:
The Northern Virginia Eagles Rugby League Team will take on the New York Knights Saturday, July 27 in the final game of their regular season.
The NOVA Eagles are having their best season yet, undefeated against The Aston Bulls from Pennsylvania, The New York Raiders, and The Southampton Dragons.
Eagles head coach and Australian-native Craig Webb says, “The Eagles have had some down years over the past 5 seasons, but 2013 has shown positive changes and a great winning attitude, due in part to team management and player recruitment.” The team has had a successful turnout of locals interested in learning the game, crossover members from rugby union and has welcomed a few Australians to play for the season.
The New York Knights are AMNRL 2012 Champions and will be a big test for the NOVA Eagles. Remarks Coach Webb, “It promises to be the game of the season against the mighty Eagles.”
The Eagles v. New York Knights game will be held Saturday, July 27th at their home pitch at Grizzly Sports Complex in Nokesville, VA.
The American National Rugby League (AMNRL) has been growing steadily since the late ‘90’s, and now boasts 8 teams along the eastern seaboard as well as expansion teams in Chicago, Utah and Hawaii.
