“We’ve had a lot of fun preparing for FAME and we’re bringing out the best in our students, showcasing ‘triple-threat’ actors who shine in dance, singing and performance,” said Dan Stapula, artistic director of Metropolitan Performing Arts Theatre of Alexandria, Va. and Lorton, Va.
MPAT’s FAME – the Musical, a high-energy musical from an all-teen cast, is based on the hit motion picture and television series. Set during the last years of New York City’s celebrated High School for the Performing Arts on 46th Street (1980-1984), FAME is the bittersweet, but ultimately inspiring story of a diverse group of students as they commit to four years of grueling artistic and academic work.
With candor, humor and insight, the show explores the issues that confront many young people today: issues of prejudice, identity, self-worth, literacy, sexuality, substance abuse and perseverance. The show will be directed by Dan Stapula, with music direction by Abbey Smith.
