Manassas Park Community Center to Serve as Cooling Shelter

It’s going to be a hot one today. With temperatures soaring past the 90 degree mark and humidity making feel like the triple digits, it could be the hottest week of year.

Because it will be so hot today, the Manassas Park Community Center says it will be a cooling shelter for anyone who needs to escape the heat.

Manassas officials say City Hall is open every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for residents to get out of the heat, but there are no plans yet to open cooling shelters.

But as it is with most summer weather in our region, it’s not the heat but the humidity that will be the problem. Heat indices will top the 100 degree mark for a few hours this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The hot trend will continue throughout the week as high pressure dominates the weather pattern. It’s not until the weekend that showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast, as well as some heat relief as a cold front is forecast to move through the area.
