Lighting Approved for Catharpin Park

GAINESVILLE, Va. – The Prince William Board of County Supervisors unanimously agreed to proceed forward with a lighting project at Catharpin Park in the Gainesville District. Funding for the lights will come from revenues the county earned from the sale of stream mitigation credits for a project at nearby James Long Park.

This project will result in lights for a third Little League field and lights for a second baseball field.

“I’m thrilled to move forward on this project for field lighting at Catharpin Park,” said Gainesville District Supervisor Pete Candland. “While there are still needs for more fields at Catharpin Park, lighting these ball fields will help address a shortage of resources for our sports leagues in the community. Now local baseball and softball leagues will be able to schedule practices and games later into the evening.”

Candland added, “I’d like to thank the entire Board for their support in helping to advance this project. I’ll continue to work with the Board and local community leaders to complete the new fields at Catharpin Park and address the needs of our growing sports leagues in Prince William County.”

The funding for the lighting of the two fields was approved unanimously during the June 18, 2013, Board meeting as Item 5-N on the consent agenda.
