Police Blotter: Death Investigation, Sexual Assault Reported

Prince William County police are investigating the death of a 39-year-old man found unconscious early Friday outside a Woodbridge restaurant. Preliminary findings showed no signs of foul play.

In separate cases, officers obtained warrants for a man accused of sexually assaulting a store employee in Woodbridge and arrested another man for impersonating a police officer at a county station. Stafford County deputies also handled two fraud reports and arrested a man for public intoxication.

Man Found Dead Outside Woodbridge Restaurant

On August 21 at about 4:01 a.m., officers responded to Chuys, located at 2631 Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge, after a report of an unconscious individual. A 39-year-old man was found in the outdoor seating area and was pronounced dead at the scene. The restaurant was not open at the time. Preliminary investigation found no signs of foul play or threat to the community. More information will be released if necessary.

Sexual Assault Reported at Woodbridge Food Lion

On August 20 at about 9:09 p.m., officers responded to the Food Lion at 12420 Dillingham Square in Woodbridge to investigate a sexual assault. A 35-year-old woman who works at the store was approached by an unknown man who inappropriately touched her and grabbed her arm before leaving in a vehicle. No injuries were reported. Police obtained arrest warrants for the man, described as a 41-year-old white male from Dumfries who is 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighs 236 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes. He is wanted for sexual battery and assault and battery. Attempts to locate him have been unsuccessful.

Man Arrested for Impersonating Police Officer

On August 19 around 7 p.m., officers investigated a man who claimed to be a law enforcement officer while trying to enter a secured area of the Prince William County Police Department Central District Station at 5036 Davis Ford Road in Woodbridge. The man drove up to a rear gate and claimed he was an officer in an attempt to enter the secured parking lot. He was denied entry and left. Following the investigation, Matthew Bailey Thompson, 45, of Manassas, was arrested on August 20. He is charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer and trespassing. He is being held without bond. A court date is pending.

Man Arrested for Public Intoxication

On August 20 at about 5:32 p.m., a deputy responded to a disturbance on Doc Stone Road. The suspect was knocking on windows and showed signs of impairment, including glassy eyes, slurred speech, and an odor of alcohol. Marcus Kellam, 37, of Stafford, was arrested and charged with public intoxication. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober.

Fraud Reported on King Arthurs Way

On August 20 at about 8:56 a.m., a deputy responded to a fraud report on King Arthurs Way. The victim received an email about an unauthorized transaction and then noticed additional pending unauthorized transactions. The bank declined the transactions and canceled the card.

Wells Fargo Scam Reported on Turtle Creek Way

On August 20 at about 6:48 p.m., a deputy responded to a fraud report on Turtle Creek Way involving a Wells Fargo scam. The victim received a text message asking if they recognized a transaction, then a phone call from people claiming to be with the Wells Fargo fraud department. The callers instructed the victim to wire transfer funds to an account controlled by the suspects. After the funds were transferred, the victim recognized the scam and contacted the real Wells Fargo, which closed the accounts. No suspects have been identified.
