Stafford Hospital welcomed nearly 12,000 babies since opening 13 years ago

Stafford Hospital

It’s been 13 years since Stafford Hospital opened its doors, the first large-scale medical facility for the growing county of more than 157,000 poeple.

The hospital is a 100-bed, Joint Commission-accredited hospital part of Mary Washington Healthcare, which operates Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, and a network of urgent care centers in the region.

“We’ve come a long way in 13 years, and I am so proud of our staff’s hard work, dedication and commitment,” says Cathy Yabolonski, Vice President and Administrator, Stafford Hospital. “Even though a pandemic, our team continues to amaze me, and for that, I am thankful.”

From 2009 through 2021, Stafford Hospital provided:

  • 11,781 Deliveries
  • 414,317 Emergency Department Visits
  • 29,578 Operating Room Cases

Stafford Hospital Services include Cardiac, Emergency, Surgical, Gynecological Care, The Family Birth Place, and so much more. Stafford Medical Pavilion, located on the campus of Stafford Hospital, also houses an Anticoagulation Clinic, Cardiology, Diabetes Management, Endocrinology, General Surgery, Radiation Therapy, Rehabilitation Services, and Urology.

Over the past year, the hospital has seen more than 75,000 inpatient, outpatient, and Emergency room visits, 97,000 fewer than Mary Washington Hospital.

However, it isn’t easy to compare the two facilities as both offer different services.

A hospital spokeswoman tells Potomac Local News:

Mary Washington Hospital offers different surgical specialties from Stafford Hospital. Mary Washington Hospital is a primary stroke center, has a level two trauma center, and includes Snowden at Fredericksburg beds.

Stafford Hospital offers comprehensive and unique services for women’s health, including a COEMIG certification for minimally invasive GYN surgery.

They’re really different centers that provide all the services needed close to home.

After the hospital opened, Kaiser Permanente opened its first clinic in the county just outside the medical center, the Colonial Forge Medical Center.

Stafford Hospital is located at 101 Hospital Center Boulevard, just off Route 1 in Stafford.
