Dumfries public hearing on firearms ban inside town hall is Wednesday

Dumfries officials will hold a public hearing on Wednesday to ban firearms and ammunition at its town hall, located at 17739 Main Street.

The Town Council cites a state law that allows local governments to ban firearms in municipal buildings.

Specifically, in Dumfries, the proposed ban would affect only the town government offices at the town hall. Dumfries also rents office space within its town hall and will not ban guns in those offices, the town's ordinance states.
