Woodbridge man, Locust Grove woman killed in crash

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY — Virginia State Police are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash in Spotsylvania County that took the life of a Woodbridge man, and woman from Locust Grove.

The crash happened Sunday at 10:10 p.m. on Courthouse Road in Spotsylvania County, about half a mile south of Route 628, Smith Station Road.

A 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of Courthouse Road when it struck head-on an eastbound 2013 Ford Fusion.

Four adults and a child were inside the Chevrolet. Two of the adults died at the scene, and two adults and a child passenger were injured were taken to a local hospital.

A Virginia State Police spokesman tells us:

·  The driver, Stephany L. Hartley, 29, of Locust Grove, Va., died at the scene as a result of her injuries. Hartley was not wearing her seat-belt.

·  A passenger in the Chevrolet, Richard M. Van Houten, 20, of Woodbridge, Va., died at the scene as a result of his injuries. Van Houten was not wearing his seat-belt.

·  Two adult passengers and a child passenger in the Chevrolet were transported to Mary Washington Hospital serious injuries. Neither adult passenger was wearing a seat belt. The child was secured in a proper child safety seat.

The driver of the Ford, a 40-year-old female from Fredericksburg, Va., was taken to Mary Washington Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
